I really enjoyed this story but the writing was a little rough for me
I felt like it was really long winded and I was getting kind of annoyed with how many words were used to describe literally everything. I wanted to just get on with the story and I feel like a lot could have been cut out.
I loved how fairytale-esque this was and the romance was great.
I can see this going in a direction I love and I am hoping it just suffers from the first book taking a while to get going

No idea who recommended this, it was alright. Not planning to continue with the series.
I couldn't get into it and it was kinda slow. I might read more of it if I feel like it.

This was an ok start to the series for me. Could have been better, but it also could have been a lot worse, so there's that. It takes a good portion of the book to get into the swing of things, and truth be told, if I hadn't been told by friends that it does get better (future Greer returns after finishing the second book: happy to report it does, in fact, get better), I probably would have had more trouble seeing this through.
That being said, I think it sets up the future of the series quite well, introducing characters that we're bound to see more of, and exploring their motivations. I really enjoy Alizeh as a main character, she's very courageous, interesting, and I'm looking forward to learning more about her.
The ending of this book does a good job at making the reader want to immediately dive into the second book (I did go to the shops as soon as I finished this audiobook to pick up the second book). The introduction of Cyrus, a character shrouded in mystery, also leaves you needing to know more about him, which I'm glad we get to see more of in the second book.
While I think there was a bit to be desired with the pacing, especially in the beginning, I think the author does a good job at introducing the reader to her characters and the context in which they're living in, and I look forward to continuing the series.

I heard pretty good things about this book, so I decided to give it a chance. It was ok.
I felt like Alizeh as a character was pretty weak sometimes (in the audiobook, the narrator made her sound super weak). Kamran was always angry for some reason and he had a big ego. Sounding like he was better than everyone else because he was at the frontlines and whatnot. I'm going to be real, I can't see Alizeh and Kamran lasting together as a couple. I felt like it came out of nowhere, almost no relationship building at all, so I have no real hopes for them to be completely honest. Storywise, I thought the Jinn as a race was pretty cool, and their story was cool as well(no pun intended).
I heard somewhere that Kamran is/might not be the male lead. So pretty excited about that, but I don't think I'm continuing this series though
