If you don’t like reading unlikeable characters, this one isn’t for you. I love this perspective of alcoholism, especially with the unreliable narrator.

I really enjoyed this book. Heartfelt and touching but at times tough to read.

This was a slow burn, and as I noticed with at least one other reviewer, I was turned off by the audiobook author until I got about 20-30 minutes in, and then I realized what genius she exhibited while delivering Hildy to us all! I enjoyed the storyline and descriptions but it wasn't until the last quarter that I was really gripped and moved this story from a 3 to a 4 star read. Rarely do we as readers get to focus on a middle-aged woman who has a transformation of sorts. I also really appreciated Hildy as an unreliable narrator.

I find it very difficult to enjoy a book where I really don't like the main character. Couple that with a story the just never seems to get going, or maybe has too many side stories occurring, and you get a less than enjoyable quick beach read.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was fantastic!

Reading this felt like home. (If you’re from the Boston area you’ll feel the same.) Hilly is a hoot! This is a great “domestic” story — you get plopped down in a regular persons life and get to observe for a while. It’s sharp, hilarious and also a beautiful but honest painting of alcoholism.

I read great reviews about this book and was looking forward to reading it, but I was very uncomfortable with the main character's struggle with alcohol and her denial of the problem. With each new page, I was afraid she may have caused harm to herself or someone else. Other than that aspect, I did enjoy the book and thought it was well written.
