The book started off a little slow for me, but as it moved along it certainly kept me interested. I will say that Mary Beth Hurt's narration of the audiobook made it a really fun and quick read. She does a great job performing the book.
Pretty sure I would have enjoyed this more had someone other than Mary Beth Hurt been the reader.
On the fence about this book; the writing is crisp and the characters fully drawn but reading an entire book about a character this deep in denial was... Difficult. I read the book in a few hours, could not stop reading but I wanted more insight and narrative arc. I also found the daughters thinly drawn and not believable. ADDED LATER: I decided I liked the book more that I first thought - because we are all in denial AND I keep thinking about the main character and the mood of the story. Sticks with you even if it uneven and a bit hard to read at times.
DNF. I was so bored, so uninvolved in the story, and I thought i’d push through it. But when I went to check how long into the story I was (thinking I was at least halfway into it), I wasn’t even a third done!!
Didn’t find it funny or captivating, would not recommend the audiobook either.

3 and a half stars! Enjoyed the narrator of the Audio-book, Mary Beth Hurt.
Fab book. Leary really got into the heart and soul of an alcoholic while also telling a great story.
A pleasant read about Hildy Good, a New England real estate agent with a drinking problem. Intertwined is the story of Rebecca, a newcomer to the area and her relationship with Peter the local psychiatrist. Enjoyable enough but nothing outstanding.
Hildy Good, descendent of Salem witches is a modern day real estate agent, divorced from her gay husband and finding her way through her alcoholism and lonely life. Very much a adult version of an Afterschool special. Read it one one sitting but overall unimpressed by style and story.
Hmm, read it about a month ago and am having a hard time remembering what happens. That's probably a bad sign, but I do remember enjoying it quite a bit and flying through it. It's very impressive to me when an author can create an unreliable narrator that you love and Leary did just that. Now that I think about it more, it was a great summer read - fun but not mindless. Oh and it was recommended to me by two very trusted readers.
Some unexpected twists, and some very perceptive writing.
