F*ck Marriage

Tarryn Fisher

4.0 AVERAGE

I'm a slower reader this year. I read way too many books in 2018 and I'm pretty sure it kind of fried my brain. Now, it takes a lot more to keep my interest in the novels I pick up and it takes me a bit longer to finish them. I've taken to reading multiple books at a time, something I've never done in my life.

But I finished this book in one day, only stopping so I could eat and go to the bathroom. I dumped the book I was reading (The Girls by Emma Cline) and I downloaded this novel onto my kindle as soon as I woke up, with complete faith that I was going to enjoy it. Tarryn Fisher doesn't write bad books.

Sure, I have my favorites (LMWL Series, Mud Vein, and F*** Love) but I still love all of her works regardless. F*** Marriage was no exception. I loved the narrative voice, I loved the premise, and I loved the humor. Some of the romantic scenes made me swoon and some were just too sugary sweet for a dark romance lover like me, but I was invested just the same.

This book had a lot of interesting things to say, and it had a lot of heart. Sometimes Billy's indecisiveness made me want to shake her, I'll admit, but she was fascinating if only because she's so different than me. I loved reading about her heartbreak and her need for revenge.

I didn't really like the crazy emotional back and forth at the end of the book, I wish Pearl had been given some redeeming qualities so we could see why anyone would be drawn to her in the first place, and I also wish Tarryn Fisher would stop having the male lead's previous significant other have a surprise pregnancy in almost every romance book she writes, but these are small complaints.

This book was really, really good. Made me laugh a lot.
I recommend it.

(but read F*** Love first, cause Helena and Kit are wonderful protagonists)

As always Tarryn's books are 5 stars. Her writing is so real and pulls you into the story. She makes you cry and hate her but at the same time you can't stop reading because you're part of the story and you feel it everywhere, in every crevice of your soul and mind. And you love her for giving you a new hope and for creating such an amazing and soul-restoring book.

- Couldn't connect with the characters, main or otherwise.
- Their interactions thoughout the entire book (all the way to the end) was very immature and very high school. (Hard to believe they are running a successful business with all this office day-time-tv drama)
- Unnecessary drama that was just brushed over and didn't have any impact on story/plot/character development... It just leaves you scratching your head wondering "what was the point of that?"
SpoilerPearl's miscarriage. Jules pregnancy"

- With a title like "f*ck marriage," I really wouldn't have minded if it ended with her living that single life with the dog
SpoilerInstead we get her telling the guy she chooses she doesn't know if she wants to get married again, and him like, oh yes we will, you just don't know it yet

- ends aburptly, leaving me with several unanswered questions

Holy...

My heart was in my throat this entire book! It feels so predictable, but If you’ve read Tarryn Fisher before, you know not to get comfortable

I don’t even know where to start, or how to give a review that does this book justice without spoilers, so hang in there!

Heartbreak and young love seem to go hand in hand, and that seems to be true for my girl Billie. Her husband leaves her for another woman causing her to flee New York and head back to Washington. This is possibly the only move of hers I disagree with in this book, but I feel like I would do the same thing.
Her ex-husband, Woods, is an annoying little pest, and part of me loves him. Billie is on a mission to destroy him, and it pleases my twisted little soul. I’m rooting for her the entire book!
Satcher, Woods’ best friend, is a hunk of a man that I absolutely love. He’s the best, best friend and confidant, driven, and self assured without being cocky. It takes a lot for a book boyfriend to become a book husband, but he just fits the bill! (Only my second book husband ever!!)

This book had my on the edge of my seat, because while it really felt predictable you just never know what road Fisher will take you down. I’m not going to tell you if the books ends the way I expected it to or not, but I will tell you that I loved every second of the whole entire ride.

The story line is believable, and the characters are raw and real, even the side characters. Throughout the whole book I kept getting the butterflies, and the anxiety knots in my stomach. I was fully invested in this story, and I didn’t want it to end. I love badass Billie, even though there are too many similarities between us... sorry world. I just hope? One day, I can have all her cool parts too.

Obviously highly recommended.

This isn't my favorite Tarryn Fisher book, but it's certainly up there.

With every single book Tarryn writes, her prose improves. I know she is a reader who enjoys prose, and it is clear that this is something she is working on in her craft. This book had so many beautifully woven phrases that I couldn't highlight fast enough. Well done, Tarryn. Well done.

The characters were so hopelessly flawed, you can't help but love them. Satcher may very well be my second favorite of the Tarryn Fisher created men. He's the kind of man women hope for, even when their jaded hearts say they don't exsist.

Tarryn's style is always one of my favorites. She writes truth. It hurts. It is sometimes too relatable to handle, but somehow she finds a way to give you hope in the end.

Lastly, the plot. This book is an emotional whirlwind. So get ready. I laughed, cried, and wanted to throw my device in rage more times than I can count.

All in all, I give it 4 out of 5 stars. I'm looking forward to the next one. #plnforlife
