This was definitely the most tender Stephen King book I have read. Lovable characters, sweet sentiment, unexplainable phenomenons, and even (surprisingly) a happy ending.
fast-paced
The audiobook for Elevation is composed of two short stories, neither of which are scary. The second story, Laurie, is an exclusive bonus to the audiobook format and is not available in print. Stephen King reads the audiobook aloud himself, which is a really cool touch. His writing isn't exclusively horror and these stories are more about relationship than things that bump in the night.
The primary story, Elevation, follows a man who is mysteriously losing weight while staying the same shape/size. The condition is unnatural but the relationships among the characters of the story are quite realistic. It's set in modern times, in Stephen King's fictitious small town of Castle Rock.
The bonus story, Laurie, is about a man who is a relatively new widower. Again, the main concepts in the tale are concerned with relationship and the human experience.
I appreciate something from Stephen King where we still get a glimpse of his wild imagination but also a change of pace from the anxiety-inducing writing he is known for.

This book was good. I liked the ending and it was cool having Mr. King narrate it.
A nice short read, also my first Stephen King book. Reading slump killer
I wish there was another star for 'loved it' between 'really liked it' and 'it was amazing'. That's how I feel about most all of Stephen King's books. (I have to give Tommyknockers another shot.) I don't know what critics say about Uncle Stevie, and frankly, I don't care. I read his books because they always make you feel something. If I knew how to use these formatting tips, feel would be in bold. I always cry at some point when I read his books. I also laugh, get pissed off, get scared, feel guilty, etc. The other reason I read his books is that there is always some type of magic. Evil or benign, active or passive, it's always there. This little book is no exception. I thought it was reminiscent of Thinner, but I was wrong. Scott has a weird condition that's causing him to lose weight. Sounds like everyone' New Year's resolution, right? It's not that simple, though. When someone loses weight without trying, it usually means bad news. That's true in Scott's case as well. Set in good ol' Castle Rock, familiar names will pop up here and there as you read. Scott's story allows some of the residents to rise above.
I read this in a day which is not something I can say often when it comes to books by Stephen King. It was a quick, light, feel good read.
i believe this is the first stephen king book i've read and i really enjoyed it!! not sure why i've avoided him forever, maybe his older books i tried just weren't my style, but i will definitely have to read more.
edit: okay apparently i've read the shining, i truly have memory issues, but yeah i didn't super enjoy that so maybe i just need to find the right ones of his to read
