This was a nice quick read and the first audio book I every listened to until the end. Well at least until the end of Elevation. The bonus story (only in audio books apparently), Laurie, wasn't really to my taste so I just stopped it halfway through.

I'm glad I listened to this with a friend so I can have someone to talk to about it. I get too distracted easily for audio books but it helps there having someone to ask about it just to make sure I actually heard it right haha.

Elevation was a nice read, but it's not something I would put on my must read list. It would be something I would pick up if I wanted something short but got nothing else to read. There's nothing special about it and it's mostly kinda generic. I usually enjoy King in his lengthy writing so there's that to factor in but over all Elevation was just alright.

Not bad but not great either.

The story initially felt like another version of "Thinner", which I liked, but I wasn't sure yet where Elevation was going and wasn't comfortable of it going that same route but it did, thankfully, deviate from how Thinner went and they do touch on different points just with similar starting points. Now the main character has this weight losing disease and although King with his usual unexplainable kind of disease instead of a more plausible one, the point of a person preparing for the end point of the condition and dealing with it hit home for me. I just didn't see why he had to go with a supernatural cause instead of a real one though which made me feel like it was a cop out. So much easier to end it with something only the author can understand instead of a disease many others know about I guess.

An unexpectedly poignant story with no horror just strangeness. King loves the unexplainable and tells its story so well that you can’t help but keep reading so you’ll discover the WHY. I hope this book draws in new fans of King. Masterful.
