I absolutely loved this book! Oh my god it was so heartwarming and heartbreaking. I don’t care if others end up not liking it lol I loved it! Read it in about 2 hours and it was perfection!

Wonderlijk, maar mooi en ontroerend.
lighthearted fast-paced

Absolutely loved it. Not a typical SK novel. More of a heart-warming story of friendship, and learning to love. Regardless, I found it rather charming.

Side note: this is not a horror! ❤

What a delightfully weird little story! It’s been years since I’ve picked up a stand-alone King, and I forgot how much I adore his particular brand of weird fiction/urban fantasy lite.

I enjoy the ambiguity in this story and that it’s not a large sweeping tale where NASA get to the bottom of Scott’s problem. Scott is simply trying live as normal a life as possible with how much time he has left. I love a story where it’s beauty lies in its ambiguity, and where unanswered questions are deliberate choices rather than poor storytelling. In that respect, this is simply magical!

Elevation is a short book and I’m admittedly out of touch with Castle Rock, but I enjoyed the relationships, characters, and the short amount of time we get to spend there. Bob and Myra felt like a real couple, and I felt like I could just walk down the street and pop into Patsy’s Diner or the bookstore. I was sucked in by that small town Maine charm that King writes so well, and I remember why I used to devour his work as a teen.

Ultimately I didn’t love the white saviour trope of the well-meaning cishet white dude helping the town to ~*embrace*~ the lesbian couple, which is what knocks this down from a 5stars to 4stars. I can see how King was trying for diversity and I did enjoy where their dynamic went toward the end, but my lordt it was preachy as hell for a while there. Give the lesbians some agency, sir.

4 stars. Could do with a bit less white dude, but was still a load of weird fun.

Would be a good story if it weren't for the political agenda
