An uncharacteristically short novel from King. My reading pace flew along, and I didn't want to stop. King dedicates the book to Richard Matheson, and this book is kind of an alternate take on Matheson's The Shrinking Man.

A heartwarming Holliday tale, by Steven King. This is a slice of life story about a quaint small town ...and is also a supernatural tale ... but is also not at all horror and will probably disappoint a lot of people expecting horror?

It serves as an interesting coda to Kings work, or maybe a pallet cleanser? Set in Castle Rock, which, here, is just another Trump voting small town that resents change of any kind, the main character realizes that he’s loosing an alarming amount of weight, but not mass; it seems that gravity is slowly loosening it’s grip on him.

But rather than reacting with dread, he is filled with a sense of wonder at the mystery of existence, and a desire to spend time with friends and enjoy the beauty of the changing seasons in Maine. Its a meditation on the fact that you can react to life and death with fear or with wonder and that wonder is better....and I really hope that this is just Stephen King pausing to reflect on life and not saying goodbye, which is kind of what it reads like.

3.5. This was good. Two short stories, so not a lot to either of them. But they were enjoyable, and other than one scene in Laurie, not horrific. I hate to say it, but I didn’t love Kong’s narration. I think I would like him reading one of his non-fiction books, but his characters all end up sounding mostly the same in his voice.

I was left wanting more. I loved the characters that King created. As usual, he sucks you into his world. However, the ending was a bit sad and not satisfying. I am torn between wishing the book was longer and wondering if it was perfect. Given some time to think about it, I may revisit this review...

Finished this book in a flash. Amazing. I found myself needing to know what was going on. Confused at first with how things would fold in together. But this book was the first book that EVER made me shed a tear. The ending was miraculous. in my opinion. I balled my eyes out like a baby. And I’d read it again. And again. 10/10
