Short, sweet, and to the point. King’s imagination is still as fascinating as ever; how he describes the physics of Scott’s condition is flawless.
A man discovers that, while his physical appearance appears the same, he is losing weight and becoming buoyant.
A short short story about how we cope with death. Sweet, funny, and sad all at the same time. King can tell a satisfying story without bells or whistles. It just feels like he’s talking to you as you read. That kind of naturalness on the page takes a lot of work and skill.
I thought the Deirdre/Scott friendship happened a little too fast for how resistant Deirdre was. The metaphor of the title felt a little forced to me. Still I highly recommend it.

This is Stephen King who's writing it, so not only is a very well written and emotional short story. It is also an interesting scientific story, for which I guess he had to do quite some research. Loved that part too.

One star is pretty harsh, I know. And Elevation is probably closer to 1 1/2 Stars, but looking over my 2-star rated books, this one doesn’t deserve that company.
I’ve read a lot of Stephen King and consider myself a huge fanboy. But speaking for myself, this was his least interesting work, probably ever.
Populated with dull stereotypes with zero nuance, Elevation feels like a troll novel more than a serious effort. One of Stephen King’s strongest gifts as a writer—and this is true even in the books I haven’t cared for much—is his ability to craft interesting characters that range along a personality continuum that rarely fails to impress me. But that King is absent from this story.
As a political novel it failed to rally. As a rights novel it failed to inspire. As a curious tale of the weird it failed to captivate. I feel like King should have picked ONE of those things and ran head long into it instead of hedging.
I’ve found my new least favorite Stephen King book. Move over Tommyknockers.

Sweet, poignant and fairly uncomplicated (although those Stephen King layers are there if you want to start pulling). I really enjoyed this tiny, feel-good book. I'm not sure how he keeps pulling these gems out of his hat.
