A very interesting duology. I enjoyed The Stolen Heir immensely and was looking forward to the second installment.
The story picks up right after the first book ends with Oak being imprisoned for the crime he has committed, but as heir to the throne of Elfhame the queen and king must get him back, even if it means a brutal war. Oak has decided to fix what he has broken, and has a plan to avoid this. Not a very good one, but it should work right?
I was surprised to see Oak's POV in this book, but all in all I guess it makes sense since we got to know Wren so much during the first book. I liked that we saw an intelligence to Oak that so many seem ignorant to. he definitely grew as a character here.
Halfway through the book I got very much bored with the story. It just felt like a very long rhyme that had an obvious answer no one was seeing. Wren was driving me crazy here and that plot twist made no sense in my opinion. Also a TREE? REALLY?
Definitely my pride and joy was seeing Jude and Cardin again. I missed them so much and we got SCRAPS. Definitely wondering if Holly plans to write a book about what was mentioned or if this is really it. Plus the end was like...so short? that was it? like idk I just expected this big thing and it got a resolution in the last 100 pages.
Anyways it was still a very good book, I just found it lacking a bit of the action that her books carry. I felt bad for Oak but at the same time, he could've died and I would've been like "oh no.....please continue". If you enjoyed the first book and are curious about what happens next definitely pick this up.

What a treat to revisit Elfhame and our favourite murderous family :) watching Oak find/reveal his true self to his family was super entertaining and the Jude and Cardan content did NOT disappoint!! (especially if the jurdan appearance is not the sole reason you read the duology - it's such a nice lil bonus)
I also loved Oak and Cardan’s relationship in this book and it makes me so happy for Cardan to finally have something akin to a sibling (their little talk at the end about Cardan understanding making mistakes and hiding behind a mask

Everything I loved about this world, such a beautiful continuation of the Folk of the Air showcasing the consequences and marks it left for Oak.
The way the two books play into each other is seamlessly and beautifully done
