Although a 500 page graphic novel may seem like a daunting read, Lighter Than My Shadow reads quickly with simple graphics and sparse words. However, these images and dialogue make up a powerful and heartbreaking memoir that ends with hope and triumph.
Green chronicles dealing with anorexia, anxiety and other issues throughout her life. Although these are heavy topics, she does well at portraying them with the simplicity of her writing and images.

I struggled with this book a lot, mostly because I could relate to it. I felt like, because this author was so honest with her journey, I was able to see that recovery is a messy, muddy long process. Her artwork, expressing her depression and thought process is something that I was thankful for. It's often difficult to convey that. Of course, I finished the book in a couple of hours, but it wasn't a fast read or an easy read. I was in her head, in her world, trying to understand her and in turn, understood more about myself.
I don’t think anything has ever summed up perfectionism like this book has. Amazing imagery, amazing everything.

Lighter Than My Shadow is a graphic novel that is centered around the author’s personal experience with battling an eating disorder. Eating disorders, and diet culture in general, are deeply ingrained in our culture, so when I come across a book like this, a book where the author so unapologetically speaks her truth, I can’t help but to feel grateful. This book made me feel less alone and I’m sure it had a similar effect on many of its readers.

really good. took me a minute to get used to the art style but i love the way the book shifts color as we go through stages, and i thought it was a well-told story with powerful, if overutilized, metaphor.
