I have been trying to figure out why this series isn't working for me—why everyone loves it but me. I enjoy it, just not as much as I hoped to. That said, I'm not ready to give up on the series completely. There is something about Raphael and Elena that I kind of like, and as I impulsively bought the first four books in the series, I will soldier on.

Swoony sigh. Oh man, what an incredible sequel to the first book in the series. I loooove love love that we get more than one book to explore the intricate dynamic between Elena and Raphael. Elena has balls of steel for going toe to toe with her Archangel. I really like that Nalini never brushes aside difficulties, like the incredible difference in power and age between Raphael and Elenea.
This book opens up the world even more and I love everything so much I would gladly read another 50 books in this series. I want to see every territory, meet every angel, ever vampire, every hunter, I want to know all about them, about their lives, their struggles, their place in this amazingly complex, fascinating world that Nalini has created.
I honestly cannot recommend this series highly enough. Just pick it up and let the tale seduce you, as another famous vampires once so aptly put it.

For an audiobook with 10+ hours, I finished it in one sitting. Just a quick disclaimer, I’ve already read the first five books in this series, I’m just relistening to sharpen the details that I missed. It’s the only thing that keeping me afloat nowadays. It made me miss my paranormal binging days. Hah. I have some problems with the series like ableism, etc. It's also pretty gruesome, there’s mention of rape, abuse, pedophilia, and other triggering topics so beware of you’re planning to pick it up. Not a perfect series, but engaging. There's also a couple of prominent characters of color in the cast and some of them gets their own book eventually. I’m pretty hype about that.

Very reminiscent of the Eve Dallas series.

I still feel as if I have to get familiar to this world. There are still elements that elude me too much to really enjoy the story and yet ... the tale has my full attention and I am eager to delve into their world;
