Archangel's Kiss

Nalini Singh

3.93 AVERAGE

The first barely stayed on the right side of fantasy first and romance second. This one moved straight through romance to soft porn. There was so much sex and that couldn't hide that this was really just a novella at most.

Elana's learning how to be an Angel while Lijuan continues to go off the deep end while there's an Angel violently jockeying to be the next Archangel to fill the open spot. The best humorous bit of annoyance is that it took eight chapters to answer the question I've been wondering since the first book: How do Angels wear shirts?

Oh, and the nonsense about her remembering her childhood was just too stereotypical to care about.

Really a 2.5, but I'm feeling kind so a 3. Another one like this, though, and I'm done with the series.

This continues the story from the first book. Read that first and then come back to this.

I love the world building in this series. Characters are not wimps and fight for humanity's good. And while I think this should have just been the second half of the first novel (rather than making us pay for another segment), it is worth the money because it continues to develop the relationships started in the first.

What did I think you ask?.... Captivating utterly captivating..
Archangels Kiss... See this is what I was talking about, when I said come up with something out of nowhere, and see where is goes. Nalini Singh has this wonderful imagination that are what some of the most unforgettable books are made of. This author did just that with these angels and vampires, she made them he own not like the same o same o we read over and over again in other paranormals. This series stands alone.

Now see, this is an Angel story to sink your teeth into. I'll admit the first book of this series had me in a 'I dont know if I take anymore stage,' but once I read the first three pages... I couldn't put this book down. This book was even better. Nalini Singh is so creative with her writing. Her words are like liquid butter. They make you think and wonder. She say's things like " A hint of midnight whispered in his tone; shadows so thick they were almost corporeal."... It was like wow! I could imagine how his voice was a whisper in midnight, sounds like a caress to me.. yum... Sorry if my review is all over the place but this is just coming out of my head like an explosion.

This book was the like instrumental music to a song by Adele called Turning Tables, sensual and dark, seductive even a little erotic, but not the nasty erotic, just plain lovely, I tell you... It was even funny at times. Kept me intrance with the wonder of it all. Let me tell you there are so many things I liked about this book. The Angels the wings, the smells. I could truly go into my imagination and see, hear, taste, smell, and feel everything in this book. I love the different looks of every angel we meet. Nalini brings them to life with her description of them you can actually picture what they might look like, so many colors. I loved it, know one was the same. It made it even more enjoyable to read with so many ethnic groups of Angels and Vampires from all over the world.

I loved that this book was focused more on the romance, and the feelings between Raphael and Elena. Their love was like a song from Neyo "Say it." that Raphael is so yummy his words to Elena just had me feeling like a waffel cone thats dripping down to the floor. I also liked that coming from being so tuff as a human in the first book, Elena showed her vulnerability a lot in this as an immortal. A new baby Angel; but she stayed true to who she was though. It was also lovely see Raphael's love and attention, his possessiveness and protectiveness, he had towards Elena. He had his seven working it guarding her.... I loved the Seven too. Raphael has some bad a$$ boys that got his back. They are all different and interesting enough you want to learn more about them... Dmitri, Illium, Jason, and Aodhan just to name a few. I'd love to read about them more.. :) The only problem I could come up with this book is that there are so many to people in it I kept getting confused at times. But other than that I was seriously seduced by this story and cant wait for more..

Well have I said enough? I think so my hands hurt now... lol anyway I can't wait to get to the next book. Here is my couple Happy Reading...

You know a series is good when you can finish two books in less than 24 hours and start on book three with countless distractions along the way

"She is my heart. Protect her as you did once before."

Can I start off by saying how much I love Raphael? He's giving Barrons a run for his money. But Barrons is still my number one guy, for now. We all fell in love with the Archangel of New York in Angel's Blood and we fall more deeply in love with Raphael in book 2 of the Guild Hunter series - Archangel's Kiss. This book starts off with Raphel and Elena at the Refuge. They have been summonded by the Archangel Lijuan to attend a ball. Elena is still recovering from her injuries and as of yet, can not fly. Or have sex. At least have sex the way Raphael wants to have sex. We learn more about Elena's past and what happened to her mother and sisters at the hands of Slater Patalis. And what caused the now strained relationship between her and her father. There's still more to learn and thank goodness there's going to be a book 3.

Elena is still adjusting to her new life as an angel and her new lover. She's still having trust issues and she is not quick to forget that she is hunter-born. She plans on returning to the Guild and her work as a vampire hunter once they return to Manhattan. I love the dynamics of Raphael and Elena's relationship. He's an archangel and is not used to asking for permission. Like Nike, he just does it. Elena is independent, strong-willed and doesn't like that her body isn't completely healed. And she doesn't like being told what to do. Their verbal sparring is interesting and funny. At one point, she calls Raphael "snarly". He smiles and says, "Only you would ever dare to say that to me." Raphel is becoming more human. He is not as cold as he was in Angel's Blood. His Seven worries that Elena weakens him; that his enemies will use Elena against him. When approached by Venom with this declaration, Raphael's response is: "She's more important to me than all of you. Don't ever forget."

This was a great follow-up to Angel's Blood. I was not disappointed. We are introduced to more of Raphael's Seven and we have more of Illium (or Bluebell as Elena likes to call him). I hope there's more Illium in future books. He's a great character and I love his interactions with Elena.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves sexy Archangels who know how to love hard and fight hard and protect their own.

The second story in this series about Angels and Vampires is another intriguing one. Elena, now a Made Angel, is learning about her new life & coming to terms with her new body. Waking up with wings after thinking you're going to die was quite a showing for this Hunter. I'm glad the author went this route instead of turning her into a vampire--been there, done that a million times.

Elena and Raphael's relationship evolves as well in this installment. They have admitted their feelings, their love, and are now in the adjustment period of figuring out what all this will really mean for them. And archangel with a newly made angel--the power difference alone is a hurdle.

I'm a fan of this series and interested to see here it goes, but something keeps me from being completely immersed in the story. I know this author has the power to do that, with her Psy-Changeling series, so I'm not what the hiccup is for me. But I will keep trucking along to see where else this takes me.

This book kept me interested throughout. Like always Nalini Singh makes a good plot and good characters.
Spice is much better in these books than the Psy-Changeling books and I am HERE for it!

I enjoy this world a lot. It's going to be interesting to see how Elena grows and how she will deal with being an Angel and going back to work for the guild. For now though, it's interesting seeing the politics in her new world and how and what she will become.

At first I was annoyed with Raphael and the way he acted in regards to Elena. I understand why he did the whole He-man, you are MINE act but it was pushing my buttons. What I loved about this author is that while she still writes Raphael as being a caveman, she does have him start to grow and you can see him changing the way he acts with Elena. While it still might be a possession issue, it goes both ways and is not as extreme. I like that they are learning to trust each other and seeing their growth as a couple is good.

As for the story, I enjoyed this story and you got to learn some of the morals/ideals that the angels live by. I liked meeting some new Angels and learning that not every angel is perfect in appearance. I can't wait to see what new hurdles all of the characters have to overcome.

Another re-read for the umpteenth time, Lol. This 2nd book in the GH world continues from Angels' Blood and we now have a Mortal Hunter Made Angel. Brilliant, I say! Positively Brilliant. Elena our famous Guild Hunter has been made an Angel by her lover, the Archangel Raphael and is now considered his major weakness. I loved this story. We get more of the Cadre of Archangels, more death and deception, betrayals, literally the walking dead, more of Raphael's Seven and so much more. Extremely well written! This world of Archangels, Angels, Vampires and Mortals is in-depth and challenging and I am enthralled and enchanted by it all. These books always get me jump started on reading again when I hit a slump. I love them all!!!! 10 Glorious, If you fall, we fall together, Knives and Sheath stars********
