So I kind of hated this book up until like the 60% mark. Riley was annoying with not telling Sam the truth because as soon as she told him, what do ya know, they got together...shocker. After that annoying stint of time Riley wasn't as annoying and Sam was cute. His relationship with his mom was sad and how he felt like he wasn't good enough but I'm glad they got their HEA.

Now Emma and Alex...I'm excited to get all the deets on their past. We love a good second chance romance.

My expectations for this book were extremely high due to the fact that I liked Riley right of the bat from the first book. It didn’t necessarily reach it but it came close. I usually LOVE a badass confident characters especially when they are the main characters. Riley was all that and Sam clearly wasn’t but he had certain moments. The book had a couple of my fav tropes like “brothers best friend” forbidden romance, kinda a enemies to lovers but more like friends to lovers. I loved the banter and expected more spice but since that was the whole point she wasn’t getting any. I was okay with it. Overall easy fun fast read

This was probably my least favorite of Layne's books so far. It's still good, but it fell a little flat for me.

Received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

What I like about Lauren Layne's books is that she writes characters that I would probably hate in real life (beautiful, successful, skinny, you know, things I'm not) but who I kind of love in book form, especially the women in these series. I'm not always a big fan of the hands off because you are the little sister of my best friend trope but Layne did it in a way that didn't annoy me. It was also good to get an update on the other characters from Stiletto. All in all a quick and easy read.

Cute, but it lacked some of the chemistry seen between the previous two couples.

i’m finally FREE worst experience of my life

4/5 stars

“How do I know you won’t chicken out again when things get hard?”
His lips brushed hers. “You don’t. Just like I don’t know that you won’t get tired of a whisky-brewing scrub who doesn’t know Armani from D&G—is that a thing?—but isn’t that what love’s about? Taking the risk? And I do love you, Riley. I’ve always loved you.”

I understand why the general public didn't like Sammy boy here, but they were too sweet together with their doggies and their funny banter was so funny and sweet that it was sort of easy to forvige Sammy for being a bit of a dummy at a certain point of the book.

What I did not appreciate though were his jabs at Riley's job, sometimes they were very insulting and just plain mean.

So, I preferred this one to Grace and Jake's book, but I still wasn't the biggest fan of the book or the couple. I did find that whole twist with Riley the sexpert being anything but a bit of a weird addition to the story, and a pretty contrived way of making the plot work. I liked Riley and Sam's friendship and them as a couple is cute, which is a word I keep using with Lauren Layne's novels, but I didn't really feel it. The fact that it's taken 10 years for anything to happen just seems so extreme, and seems to necessitate some pretty flawed communication. I feel like such a downer reviewing this series. I do enjoy reading them, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten through this whole series in 24 hours, but once I finished them I just found that I couldn't remember very much about them! 3.25 stars just because I liked it more than the first two.
