oh my,,,
riley's inexperience was the result of waiting for her one and only true love, sam.
after both of them waiting 10 years to eat each other, what we get is an explosion of passion and resent, a perfect combination!!!!!!!
(i wanted to kick sam in the head 456464 times)

well, this severely lacked plot. and i was so pysched for riley mckenna's story, especially because of the whole pining and longing after her teen crush thing.

it all felt so insta-lovey to me though ... there was little to no development in the entire thing.

also, i found it kind of unbelievable that
Spoilerriley didn't have sex for like, 10 years, while maintaining a reputation as a sex goddess. i mean, obviously she'd have to had gone on dates, and then refused sex for every one of them. wouldn't it cause men to be suspicious, the way they knew no one who slept with riley?

sam wasn't slut-shamey, but his jokes were a bit ... rude. i didn't like him at all.

it took me like 5 days to finish this, because it just really wasn't that interesting. they fell in love too quick! they were sort of better (and i mean a bit more tolerable) than julie and mitchell (i enjoyed reading their story more than reading about them) but samriley were several rungs below grace and jake's book. riley and sam were just not interesting! i didn't hate their characters like i did the characters in after the kiss, but i didn't like their story either. and neither did i like the couple.

so i guess that means it's slightly worse than after the kiss.

I’ve been wanting to read this book for years as I was late to the Stiletto world and I LOVE friends to lovers stories but I thought the first two books in this series were WAYYY better and hotter. I also thought the chemistry between Riley and Sam felt more passionate in the other books because there was more banter and I love the fine line between flirting and bickering. But there was something missing in this book for me because after waiting 10 years to be with someone, I expected the sex to be sizzling and off the charts and it just didn’t seem like it was and while I loved the way these two got together in the end, I just had higher hopes for this whole book I realized. That being said, I did read it in 24hrs and never skimmed because I love all the secondary characters and they are what makes these books so fun and why I gave it 3 stars.

This one was a little hard to get through... genuinely no real obstacles just the characters being too stupid to end up together, I guess?

I love a good classic brother’s best friend trope, it can never go wrong. I found myself a little bored through the middle (but I’ve been in a slump recently so maybe it’s me). Although I absolutely loved the found family trope, especially when Mitchell, Jake and Sam were together. Like I’m a sucker for found family tropes. I can’t wait to read the last book!!

SPOILERS AHEAD:

Things I liked:
  • “Sam Compton already knew what would kill him one day: Riley McKenna.”
  • “his eyes never leaving the kitchen table, where Riley sat reading a story about a friendly blue ferret to her niece.”
  • “And then he kissed her. Holy hell, he was kissing Riley McKenna.”
  • Grace and Jake are engaged (my babies)
  • “She couldn’t actually see his eyes to know that he was watching her, but she felt it.”
  • I like she was trusting enough to tell him she’s scared (only because she was inexperienced)
  • “Good. I want you to be mine. Just mine.”
  • His lips met hers, and the kiss was the perfect mix of sweetness and possession.”
  • “Told ya he’s whipped,” Jake whispered to Mitchell.”
  • Mitchell, Jake and Sam’s new found friendship
  • “He lifted her chin. “You’re not a sham. You’re a gorgeous woman who knows herself well enough to wait for the right moment.”
  • Them picking out dogs together lol
  • “Actually, scratch that. It is my business, because I’m in love with your son.”
  • Liam helping Sam and Riley get back together
  • Sam writing to the magazine
  • Sam selling his whiskey
  • “I love you, Sam.”
  • Jake and Grace getting married
  • “Jake lifted his glass to interrupt. “And to all of you, for being the best wedding party, with the absolute worst toast.”
  • “To Stiletto—for showing three different couples they were made for each other.”
  • “Then Sam’s hand found hers and squeezed, and she forgot all about everyone but him. He was hers.”
