01/02/21 update:
Wish I could rate this book higher.
I used this today as part of Children's Mental Health Week and I actually got emotional at the art I got back. From a class which is boy heavy (18 boys, 11 girls) and many declare, they can't draw. The responses were incredible.
I've found a book that will stay with me for my teaching career.
_______________
Been meaning to read this for ages and it was well worth the wait - 5*
I have many, many, many boys who say they cannot draw. I'm hoping this will inspire them.
It's also for children's mental health week 2021 (next week).

The main character doesn't believe that they're an artist, but their teacher proves them wrong. This is a wonderfully inspiring book that is very simple in terms of text. We can all be artists!
For: lovers of art; artists; those looking for an encouraging/inspiring read.
Possible red flags: feelings of inadequacy.

This is fun book to show kids that they all have the ability to create something unique even when they think that they are not anything special. It could even help kids to pass on the message and encourage others to "sign" their unique talents. Teachers can use this book for students of all ages, and could even be connected to different lesson standards depending on how the book is presented and the following activity.

This was nice and had a lovely lesson for kids about creating art. I liked the art style quite a bit! I think I preferred Peter Reynolds' other book (Ish) a little more but this would definitely be a great read for a creative kiddo.

So glad I reread this! I was remembering a different book altogether.
I love her how enthusiastically she throws herself into making "better" dots!

Art can be ANYTHING, it's all in how it makes us feel. Finding joy in what seems like the simplest of things is where this starts and it turns into a beautiful story about finding what makes one happy. ADORABLE book and a philosophy more people should follow. :D

A simple and classic story that shows you don't have to be perfect, and that a little bit of praise can go a long way.
