One of my favorite books of all time. I marvel how it holds up over time. It makes one think about what is important in life. I know that sounds cliched, but it's true....
The Catcher in the Rye if The Catcher in the Rye was actually a good book.

God this book was hard to get into. The first 100 pages was very slow but it picked up half way through.
I liked how varied the characters life choices were and their reasoning behind them. Each character felt real in the sense that they had opinions and beliefs of the world that dictated their behaviour.
Learnt a little about the Great Depression which is cool.
Note Larry as a character was charming at first but soon came to annoy me.
Good book but not something I’d rave about.

“But it may be that the way of life that he has chosen for himself and the peculiar
strength and sweetness of his character may have an ever-growing influence
over his fellow men so that, long after his death perhaps, it may be
realized that there lived in this age a very remarkable creature.”
“We’re not used to persons
who do things simply for the love of God whom they don’t believe in.”
“It irks me that I cannot hope with any
words of mine to give an idea of the pleasantness of his voice that invested
even his most casual utterances with persuasiveness or of the constant
change in his expression, from grave to gently gay, from reflective to playful,
that accompanied his thoughts like the ripple of a piano when the
violins with a great sweep sing the several themes of a concerto.”

I give this book four stars for its longevity and the writing. The prose is easy, beautiful and there are some truly memorable passages. But I wasn't moved by the story, by the characters or by the meandering, third-party way that much of the action comes to pass. It feels like a classic: Something meaty and considerable that you read because someone made you.
Life-changing read for anyone who has ever felt lost. I will definitely be returning to this one again and again.
