Had to read this for an Anthropology class. Didn't hate it. Don't remember most of it. It does exactly what it says on the tin.

I liked the questions about how we study the past that this book brought up in addition to showing a brief intro to what information we do have in an easy to understand way.

the first three chapters are just preamble talking about cultural relativity and other (long winded) anthropology 101 stuff?? and the last chapter compared language as a technology to "cyberspace" and also mentioned cyborgs and MUDs... that leaves just two chapters (4&5) that actually felt like they were about PREHISTORY most of the time. there were a couple of interesting tidbits in those chapters but still not enough to redeem the book as a whole.

it was a little dry, but it was short. if you enjoy prehistory, like i do, or you're looking for a brief introduction of prehistorical man, then you'll likely enjoy this. for your everyday dude? don't recommend.

Dense but interesting!! Definitely written by a scholar.

Due to the constraints of space imposed by the format (‘very short’, indeed), I found the writing somewhat choppy and jarring. Taken paragraph by paragraph, however, this is a very interesting book on a subject I know little about. Overall, quite enjoyable.
