Cover & Schreibstil
Story & Charaktere
Also erstmal, ich LIEBE Killian!

I've heard people rave about this series for years. I finally decided to give the audio a go and I loved it so much. I downloaded book 2 in the series before I was halfway finished with Idol. So good!
This book starts off with a bang. Liberty is minding her business and Killian is passed out on her lawn. What a way to start off a neighborly relationship, right? The allure of the celebrity, or in this case, rock star is always a winning trope for me. There are so any positive things about entering into the public eye, but it all comes at a cost. Liberty knows this all too well based on her dad's experience in the music industry.
This book had A Star is Born vibes without the horribly sad ending. Thank goodness for that.nIdol has a good amount of hot and steamy open door romance and a shared love of music between the main characters. I'm sure you already guessed that! If you'v ever dreamed about being with a rock star, I think you would love this book!

Killian (27) & Libby. Book 1 of a series but can be read as standalone. Dual POV. It has a HEA and an epilogue.
Killian is part of a world famous rock band and the band has hit a bit of a low point in terms of emotional well-being. Killian is suffering some guilt and anger as it relates to his closest friend and he’s not mentally or emotionally in a good place when he meets Libby. He has lost his desire to sing, write and perform music.
Libby is stuck in a boring life, has isolated herself and she hasn’t been willing to try to break out of her humdrum world. She describes herself as prickly, private, and plain and a fairly boring woman who pretty much hides in her house. Her parents were both musicians and Libby, writes, plays and sings but her parents discouraged her from ever pursuing a life in the music industry.
These two definitely need each other to help mend the broken parts of their lives. As they form a friendship, their best qualities begin to shine. Killian is vibrant and definitely has the “IT” factor. He’s a talented musician and Libby is able to make him fall in love with music again. He’s kind, he’s smokin’ hot, and he definitely has the moves in the bedroom. On the flip side, Killian shakes up Libby’s life and a spark is ignited in her. His belief in her talent gives her confidence and a willingness to step outside her comfort zone. She begins to see who she really is and what she is meant to do with her life.
These two have a great journey. There is not a lot of angst, no cheating or OW/OM drama. They keep secrets from the band and the world, but not from each other. The secondary characters add depth and are necessary to the story. The story flows well. I didn’t skip at all and was completely engaged throughout the whole story (358 pages and I read it in almost a day). Overall, I really enjoyed the book and would recommend.
Quotes:
"I don’t think there’s a person on Earth capable of resisting the man. Killian is a peacock in a world of sparrows.”
“You can be anything you want. It’s whether you’re happy that’s the question.”
“I will never laugh at you,” he promises fiercely. “Ever. I’m your safe place, Libby. You’ve got to know that.”
“You are the best part of my day, Killian.”
“The worst thing you can do in life is ignore an opportunity out of fear.”
“We’re not who we were. We’re better. Evolution, Jax. Not regression.”
“You’re my reason, the answer to all questions.”

great read!! amazing way to start off the series, I don’t think I’ve ever read a book like this and I really enjoyed it
perfect way to start the year, just what I was looking for!
Idk this started off good but towards the end it kinda got predictable and basically had to force myself to finish. I usually love this author's books but idk the book captured me but then it lost me. I still recommend this to others becuz overall it was pretty decent.

Idol tells the story of Killian, the lead singer of Kill John, as he struggles to find his love of music after a devastating blow to his group, and Liberty Bell, the hermit who is hiding from the world for various reasons. Their story is one of finding who they are and what makes them happy and owning it in an industry built on facades.
The aspect of the novel that I love the most is the importance of music tohumans that is portrayed in the book, not only from the characters, but the author herself.
“MUSIC CAN BE your friend when you have none, your lover when you’re needy. Your rage, your sorrow, your joy, your pain. Your voice when you’ve lost your own. To be part of that, to be the soundtrack of someone’s life, is a beautiful thing.”
Libby finds solace in music when she is sad and uses it to convey an important message to Killian, and Killian speaks of music and performing as a high and the audience as an animal. The both truly love music, as exhibited by their several conversations and the careers they choose to pursue. This is an aspect of the novel I truly love and agree with. Music is used as the soundtrack of our lives and Kristen Callihan portrayed this idea perfectly with the characterization of the band, Libby, and Killian.
What ultimately made this novel enjoyable for me is Killian and his interactions with his bandmates and Libby. I am not sure that I would have liked it as much without him. His wit and banter sucked me into his character. Just as Libby describes, “…this guy vibrates with vitality. It permeates the air like a perfume, soaking into my skin and making me want to rub myself all over him just to get a little bit more of that feeling – as if by being near him, I, too, might be something special.” This is exactly how I feel about him. I am drawn to him over all of the other characters, and I’m not sure I would have liked the book without him. His humor and constant concern with his friends make him loveable. It is endearing that he was constantly thinking of the happiness of the people he loves over himself, and, even if it has disastrous outcomes, his intentions are always good. I think what is the most enjoyable aspect of his characterization is that he didn’t talk negatively about the music industry. Killian acknowledges what is bad about it, but recognizes that it is part of what makes them rock royalty. Yes, he has lost his desire to compose, but it is tied to what happens to Jax. I also really loved that Kristen Callihan didn’t have Killian use groupies to make Libby jealous, have him get photographed in a compromising position that he will have to explain later, or any of the other standard rock-romance conflicts. The conflict she creates, while it does center around the issues in the music industry, is unique.
I also like Libby, but I didn’t really connect to her. I think she is a good heroine, a good match for Killian, and fantastic with the band. She never expects him to put her before them, and she sacrifices for his benefit and the benefit of the band. I also like that she is courageous enough to take her career and make it what she wants. In the end, her only focus is on making herself and the people she loves happy.
“I breath in her scent. Touch her skin. ‘You can have the world. Just reach for it.’ ‘I don’t need the world,’ she whispers in my ear. ‘What do you need?’ I’ll give her anything. Everything. Soft hands on my neck, gentle lips mapping my skin. ‘You.’”
There is a host of good secondary characters. I laughed at their antics, especially Rye and Whip, but I, once again, didn’t feel this burning desire to know their stories. The reader is fully aware that there will be stories, as the basic plot of their future books is hinted at in Idol. I will, of course, read their stories, probably the day they are released, because I enjoy Kristen Callihan’s writing and her stories, and I am sure I will like the next books just as much, if not more, as Idol.
Overall Idol is an enjoyable read that I would whole-heartedly recommend if you are looking for well-developed plot and characters living in the world of music.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A contemporary rock star romance with the music theme done right.
I don't know if the author is herself a musician or if she did some excellent research. But I very much appreciate the authenticity she brought to the story.
Our heroine captured my heart from the very start. <--- That is unusual for me as I generally have a hard time connecting with heroines in a romance novel. Yet, Libby was awesome from start to end. ---adjective time! *rubs hands happily* Honest, forthright, secure, caring, supportive, self-aware, independent. <--- That was Libby. <3
Our rock star, Killian (cool name) is not only swoon worthy as a music idol, he is swoon worthy as a person. Strong, brave, talented, level-headed, sweet and caring. A lovely young man.
They meet under less than perfect circumstances but their natures allow them to quickly form a friendship. One that slowly but surely turns into something more as they discover their mutual love of music. They encourage and support each other. It's beautiful to see.
This would be a five star rating from me except for a half dozen or so typos and use of a miscommunication device in a story that could easily have done without it.
A big four stars from me for this delightful contemporary romance.
I think I "have to" read Scottie's story next. Out of all the characters, Gabriel Scott intrigued me the most with his 3-piece bespoke suits, English accent and extreme physical beauty. He is an enigma that I have to find the answer to.
