It was hard to read and get through. Soft yet haunting. Hapless yet powerful.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)‌
‏More details in Farsi below /

‏Beloved / Toni Morrison
‏I feel that the more pain someone has experienced in life, the more they can connect with this book—and even love it.
‏But Sethe’s story, and what she went through—especially back then—was probably hard for white people to truly understand.
‏Even though the story is set in the past, in many parts of the world, being a woman still makes life harder, and motherhood often turns you into a quieter, smaller version of yourself.
‏I read the book in Farsi (sadly, it was not a good translation), so I can’t say much more for people who don’t read Farsi.
‏But the emotional weight of it stayed with me.‌

Holy shit. What a heartbreaker. This was one of the most haunting, devastating reading experiences of my life and I fucking loved it. I've read Morrison before, I was just a little thing, high school. The Bluest Eye was my favorite novel for a while, and I loved Jazz, but I didn't read more of her for some reason, can't recall now. I'm so glad to return to her with such a banger. Sethe will live in me forever. The prose flowed like water, the pain flowed like oil, and it still hurts to the bone, what we've done to each other, what we still do.

Although sometimes the prose was sometimes hard to understand and the changes in POV sometimes disorienting, all characteristics that say more about me than the story itself, this book is incredibly well-done. It is beautiful and disgusting and heartbreaking and hopeful and somber and sweet all in one

I think what I adore most about this book is how it explores suffering, tragedy, brutality in a way that is not perverse. So often you'll see books that showcase the darkest parts of humanity and it's done in a way that seemingly glorifies or delights in it just for the sake of its taboo. Beloved tells its story not only in a beautiful, poetic way, but also in a respectful and tactful manner. We don't need every excruciating detail to feel the pain of this story.

The characters also feel incredibly real, even the ones we only hear of in passing. This story feels lived in, suffered and loved.

Overall, a great read, and very important as well.
