I'm not sure I would've liked it so much in the print version, but the audiobook production is EXCELLENT. It felt like I was listening to the audio of a found footage movie. The characters felt pretty fleshed out, and the ending for everything felt deserved. Although I have to say that Jessica's ending kinda broke me a bit. But this was a great read!

Ok so I still don't know how I feel about this book. It absolutely kept me engaged, and I thought the found footage narration style was used effectively. However, I have no idea what the message of this book is at any level. Most of the characters kinda (or really) suck? The ending felt like a totally different book than the beginning.

I love found footage, and I did enjoy chunks of this book. Got a little too cosmic horror when I was wanting more haunted house. I think going too big took away from some of the time we could've gone deeper into the characters or a mystery in the house itself- I guess I happen to agree with Fade To Black's producers lol.

The journal entries were not my favorite and made it feel repetitive hearing everyone's pov of the moment we just read a transcript of. I truly think they are the culprit of a lot of things I didn't like about the book. Loved the transcripts of the videos and the texts though!

ACAB to Kevin. Just... if you read his first journal entry and can't stop thinking acab just know you're right and it's the correct judgement to have about him lol.

And no matter how hard they try they can never make me a hate a woman in stem.
What was Claire meant to do at the end there other than just like join the void? lol

I can definitely feel the influence of House of Leaves and As Above So Below. Though I have my criticisms, I found it interesting for the most part. I just didn't love the ending, and the mystery's ending was meh. However, the hauntings starting with that hippie song was iconic I can't lie.

But I desperately want more found footage books. If you'd like a recommendation of a book that is in a similar style try Katie Alice Marshall's Rules For Vanishing. It's really good!

slow-paced

What a colossal waste of 8-hours and 33-minutes… Horrible book, just horrible!

DNF’d at 37%.
Muy lento para engancharte y continuar. Cuando tardo tanto en avanzar en un libro es por que le hace falta esa chispa en el suspenso que si consigo con otros autores.
