Le voyage désespéré d'un père et son fils dans un monde dévasté, glacial et recouvert de cendres. Absolument poignant.

A worthy adaptation.

At first I wondered, " what's the point?"
What's the point of taking McCarthy's words and flattening them.
The whole point of McCarthy is how he conjours - take this for example:

" He walked out in the gray light and stood and he saw for a brief moment the absolute truth of the world. The cold relentless circling of the intestate earth. Darkness implacable. The blind dogs of the sun in their running. The crushing black vacuum of the universe. And somewhere two hunted animals trembling like ground-foxes in their cover. Borrowed time and borrowed world and borrowed eyes with which to sorrow it."

Beautiful, yes, but also on reflection - what the actual fvck are you on about Cormac?
How do you translate that to pictures? To film?

You can't.

That says Larcenet has created something beautiful and so so bleak and sad and brutal.
Yes there are cannibals, zombies. Larcenet has done something quite wonderful.

Now he's on a roll maybe he could draw The Crossing Book One?

quel plaisir de retrouver enfin tout le talent de Manu Larcenet !

Stunning. Gorgeous. Horrifying. Emotionally devastating. No notes.

As an aside, I have not read The Road (the original) yet, so I can't speak to whether or not this is a good adaptation.

I love Cormack McCarthy's The Road, and I am endeavoring to read it annually during winter. This adaptation was somber and atmospheric, but I prefer actually reading the book in this case. The illustrations are done well, so this is just a personal preference, but one I feel justified in sharing as the comic adaptation struggles to portray everything in the novel. If you're a fan already then you'll enjoy this, but I would hesitate to experience the story in this way your first time.

Having read McCarthy’s emotional and dark post-apocalyptic story of father and son, Larcenet’s graphic adaptation of the novel is a powerful and eerie one, even with its somewhat short length. His bleak black-and-white art perfectly helps tell the story well as it’s full of tenseness and keeps a macabre atmosphere. Chilling and bittersweet. A (100%/Outstanding)
