This book was pretty cute and fuzzy in contrast to rough and tumble Samuel Hawley and all of his gun wounds, enjoyable read.
I went into this book thinking it's something completely different from what it actually is. I though it might be sifi, it's not. Not even close.
This's the story of Hawley and his daughter Lo who live on a way society deems "different". Hawley has a criminal past, and raised his daughter accordingly.
We get the present from Lo's point of view and the past in Hawley's (for the most part)
It's a story of a daughter-father relationship, and how they are trying to adjust and deal with the past and the present, and the ghost of the mother that left them.
It's so sweet and cozy. Obviously, it's a character-driven story. Nothing major happens, but something about it definitely touched my heart.

this book is SO good and i already want to reread it. i remember that i used to dislike books about family relationships and family drama. but i wouldn’t say this is drama. this is more like family honesty and family humility, and it was about the relationships in life that we can’t choose. i wonder now what my issue with books about family was. it might’ve been the depth, and the complexity of them that i hated. but the relationship that Loo has with her father is so beautiful, and Hannah Tinti did such a good job developing her characters and the plot, and i couldn’t put it down. i love every bit of this story.

Likable father/daughter story with a creative storytelling structure and just the right amount of suspense and mystery.
I really enjoyed this novel, particularly the structure the book where we as the reader learn about Hawley and Loo's mother by how he received the bullet holes on his body. Whilst I could see that Hawley had some "good" in him I felt his choices were poor and whilst he loved Loo, his greatest act of love would have been to leave her with her grandmother who would have provided a stable environment for her. I was saddened to read how he left Loo for 4 years and then just took her from her grandmother and made sure she had no custody rights even though Hawley was happy to use the grandmother when it suited him. It was really well written and all the characters developed really well but I can't quite give it 5 stars for the violence and Hawley's life decisions - my own moral dilemma rather than the fault of the author!

Tinti's long-awaited latest novel (after the great The Good Thief) was well worth said wait--it's one of those books you can totally rip through in one sitting, and you probably will want to. It's centered on a girl with an unconventional childhood, who, with her father, is maybe finally settling down--interspersed with tales from her father's criminal past. The two stories gradually intersect to strong results. I was not super into the daughter's love interest, who takes up way too much space in the story, but enjoyed her interest in astronomy, her dealings (and her father's) in a small town, family secrets coming to light, grand theft auto etc. Really entertaining and gorgeous writing. A/A-.

Enjoyed Sam Hawley and his daughter Loo's on the road life, but felt the end wasn't a good enough pay off for the story Presented. Still an enjoyable and adventurous read. Won this book in a Goodreads giveaway.
This is not my usual genre but I was drawn to both Hawley and Loo. Their lives are complicated and isolated but as the story progresses, you see how though so many people feel alone, there is always love, you just have to see it in all of its dysfunction.
