Personally resonated with me for mental health.
was glad for the happy ending but wish it was more fleshed out. felt rushed. good character development but that also seemed rushed / sudden. maybe it’s just how life goes. it is sudden until it is not.

The most redeeming characters have the least time to develop and reflect. Everyone in this book needs help.

I struggled at times with this novel, it had many themes that in other books would be an automatic dnf for me. However there was something about this book that made me push through and keep reading.
The main negatives for me were the sexual violence towards women almost glamorizing it….just why do women write about sex in this vein….i could imagine the outrage if it were a male writing this.
It was dark and heavy at times but had some lighter moments. Good satisfying ending although I would have like to have heard more about Zoe and how she fared beyond the brief mention in the ending.

Every single character that was introduced was interesting and unique, something I believe to be integral to a good book. Cleo and Frank were both, in their own weird ways, characters worth rooting for, even when they did make it hard. I also appreciated that the author made both of them make decisions that were unforgiveable, horrible, irredeemable, and yet redeemed them. I often find that authors try to redeem characters that haven't yet become bad, but Cleo and Frank definitely made some huge mistakes. The Jesus incident did make it very hard for me to root for Frank after that point, but I'm also a little bit too much of an animal lover to really expect otherwise. Overall, I just really appreciated the author's willingness to go there, something not all authors are willing to do.

I enjoyed the variety of characters and real life problems, including childhood trauma and coping mechanisms people have.

This book made me think manic pixie dream girl. But then I went down a rabbit hole on the phrase because deep down I had a feeling it was not appropriate to use anymore. The more you know! See here: I'm sorry for coining the phrase "Manic Pixie Dream Girl"

So my thought on this book? The core character doesn't really change from beginning to end. The only likeable characters are Santiago and Eleanor, and they are belittled and/or considered boring by other characters. Which makes sense, since the other characters live in a glam NYC bubble. An addictive read, but also frustrating.
