It's not a bad book. Maybe it's even good. I can see what the author wanted to do, and did, buy mostly I just wanted it to be over with. At least now I know what all the fuss is about.

I loved the character development, the drama, the setting, etc. Found some parts to be slow. But overall good read!

The cover art on this pulled me in and I stayed for the characters. This a pure character story. The plot simmers along slowly but there are many protagonists and many side pieces. The story largely follows Cleo and Frank, their marriage, their life, their direction. We are introduced to many friends and family along the way but the real star is Eleanor. She is the side piece character, who Mellors develops so well that she feels like the main character. She’s the humour, the character you love from the moment you meet her and her undeniably beautiful story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and whilst I didn’t feel like the plot was groundbreaking or anything new, Mellors has this way with words, with characters, with a story.

Recommend as a sad girl novel. There are some trigger warnings here too so make sure you check those before diving in.
