Un libro del quale leggi la trama, ti aspetti una cosa, e te ne ritrovi tutta un’altra ma totalmente in negativo. Partiamo col fatto che se l’age gap nella relazione dei due protagonisti sarebbe dovuto essere il punto focale qui assolutamente non lo è, i loro problemi sono più dati dal fatto che Frank sia un mostro e che Cleo jumped in una relazione con un uomo di 40 anni infantile senza sentirsi sicura di sé e senza aver trovato davvero se stessa. I temi che dovevano essere profondi sono stati trattati con una superficialità allarmante, anche perché i capitoli si sono sprecati con le side stories (che si leggevano più come aneddoti e non erano davvero importanti per il plot) dei personaggi secondari, COMPLETAMENTE INUTILI. Apparte per una che è un po’ uno dei pg principali poi. Ma riguardo a lei, un’altra cosa che mi ha fatto molto arrabbiare, è il fatto che questa ragazza sia ebrea (così come Frank) e qui i personaggi ebrei vengano presentati con stereotipi terribili e tutto ciò scritto da un’autrice che non è ebrea, ma è fisicamente identica alla descrizione della protagonista Cleo…
Una quantità di addictions, che anche queste mai approfondite davvero. 
In generale credo che questo sia un romanzo immaturo, anche la scrittura me lo dimostra e un romanzo che vuole essere pretenzioso ma non riesce ad arrivare a quel livello. 
Diciamo che non mi sorprenderei se uscisse una serie netflix a riguardo.

The book captures the frailties of living in the 21st century perfectly, where every character is flawed and imperfect, trying to make do by adapting sometimes the worst characters possible. I love the exploration of how one can emerge from their childhood traumas, and move forward from using them as an excuse for their behaviour to breaking the cycle of abuse. The writing is flawless and so well paced, loved how the writer adapts to the voice of characters subtly throughout the pages. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

This book has no plot. It was entertaining and I wanted to finish it but it is about the characters and not a story. It’s hard to explain. I don’t know if I liked it or not yet!
