✨ Just finished The Arrogant One and it was an unexpected treat.

📖 Sadie and Lockhart meet at a restaurant bar, not knowing they work in the same industry. When they go into their evening agreeing to one night, the next morning brings regrets.

💭 If you love secret identity tropes, playboy until he meets her, and one-night onlys that turn into more, this one's for you. The secret identity could lead to a horrible miscommunication trope that is a turn off, but the way the characters communicated… yes please, let’s get more of that!
My favorite part? When Lockhart’s sister, Eden, helps out Sadie in front of the family. Also, I’m DYING for Eden’s story, you just get a sense there is so much there!

Would I recommend it? Yes. The restaurant/food industry isn’t one I see in a lot of romance novels, which made this a fun change of scenery.

⚠️ Open door spice from the first chapter.

A billionaire who owns loads of restaurants, yes please!

For people who love reading about food and spicy times, this book will be your new happy place. Filled with delicious descriptions of cuisine that sounded divine. Even Sadie’s baked treats and her Mac and cheese, 😋
At the heart of the book is the romance between Hart and Sadie. He a confirmed bachelor and she single because of privacy reasons relating to her work. A one night stand changes all that. I will say this relationship was heavily based on physical attraction and I was worried that is all we would get. Their relationship did develop over time though and you could see the trust building between them. Considering Hart is meant to be the arrogant one he was actually pretty sweet and I really liked his interactions with his siblings.

Thank you to VPR and the author for the arc and this is my honest review.

one night stand, billionaire, he falls first standalone

sadie & hart have a chance encounter at a restaurant one night and phew do they hit it off. sadie isn’t one for one night stands but hart is… even so he cannot get this girl out of his head! she is a secret ambiguous food critic and harts family being in the food industry … could create a conflict of interest. if he ever finds out…

weeee i loved this one!! hart IS HOT obvi since he’s written by marni. the food critic aspect was soooo cool + unique I had such a good time with this!

This was my first Marni Mann book and it was a fun one! The spice was great and these two definitely had hot insta-lust chemistry. I liked the hidden identity storyline at first, but I felt like it dragged on too long to the point where I was getting frustrated. I am notoriously impatient though, so it may not bother others.

The narration was excellent, especially from Vanessa Edwin, who is a favorite. Aiden Snow’s narration is sometimes a little too deep and dramatic, if that makes sense, but again, that’s personal preference. The one thing I’ll say about this book on audio is there’s a lot of times where the two characters are not together in the same room and they are each having conversations with people in real life that are with them, while also texting each other. Which is fine but they go back and forth between in person dialogue and text conversations, often sexting, which was a little confusing and hard to follow as an audiobook listener. You can definitely do this on audiobook, but that was one feature that happened frequently and it was just a little jarring.

Overall though I would recommend this book as an easy, fun, light read, and I will definitely try more from this author. Based on a friend’s recommendation I’m going to go to the dalton series and start from there. So, more to come!
