An Agatha Christie modern day whodunnit
There’s a murder, there’s a big house with lots of guests, someone who knows too much and plenty with secrets to keep.
I did really enjoy this and there aren’t many stories in this style of murder mystery but it is a way to enjoy without scary serial killers, unrealistic police investigators and a complete lack of grizliness.
Jemma is new to the group but a key character and you feel like you could easily be her so makes buying in to this scenario much easier. Definitely worth a read if you like the whodunnit, especially in the classic hercule poirot crime solving way.
It’s not exactly a shocking end or a complete mystery on the whodunnit but enjoyable nonetheless

I must say unequivocally that the book was great. I personally liked it better than Where the Hate Begins. It is true that one could guess a lot of things and elements of the plot could be found in many classic detective stories by Agatha Christie, but even so, or precisely because of that, I enjoyed the story. The characters were varied and realistic. For me, I definitely recommend it warmly to everyone who likes classic detective stories.

The Invitation by Rachel Abbott is the second book in the Stephanie King series. It’s a well written , gripping fast paced psychological thriller with lots of secrets and unexpected twists and turns that makes it a highly entertaining read . Cannot wait for the next book in the series !

The Murder Game is a fantastically compelling read with an interesting cast of characters and interesting hook. Lucas’ invitation to his guests to play his elaborate game seems somewhat inappropriate. What would they have to celebrate?
The story begins with one of our main characters (and through whose eyes we experience the majority of the book) and her husband on the road. Their relationship is fraught and she’s clearly reluctant to attend the game. Why can’t Lucas simply be refused? The book soon sends us back in time to a year before, where we gradually discover why no one can say no to their host, before driving forward to its gripping conclusion.
I must have guessed at and re-guessed the ending’s events a hundred times. I was right about some big clues but changed my mind quite a few times so I’m glad I was kept guessing as to what everyone did and didn’t know (or do) - the sign of a great read! I’m going to have to go and find the first in the series now!

The Invitation is the first book I have read by Rachel Abbott, and it did not disappoint! Well developed characters, excellent plot and so many twists and turns you are not sure what's coming next. Just when you think you have it figured out, the story takes you somewhere else. I love a book that keeps me guessing until the very end. Now to go and read some of Ms. Abbott's other books.
