I really liked this book and thought it was a good read. The characters were dynamic, compelling, and multi-faceted. The story was fast-paced and suspenseful, and the ending was fulfilling. The only thing that kept me from giving this book 5 stars is that I thought that the main mystery/twist in the plot was a bit transparent. I figured it out halfway through the book. I kept hoping it was a book where you think you've discovered the twist only to realize it was a Red Herring, but alas, it was not. If you are halfway through and you think you know what is going to happen, you are probably right.
I enjoyed every moment of this book and the end left me in tears. Part of this book involves a book club where the members pick the book that matters most to them. I've read some of the books they chose and now have added a few to my to-read list.
It's hard not to love a book about books. However, the story gets lost in a lot of forced dialogue during the book club meetings and various subplots that seem there for no reason. Some of it borders on ridiculous just to get the desired ending-seriously your daughter is missing in Paris and on drugs but you'll just wait at home for an email? A great idea for a novel but missing the wow factor.
I am apprehensive of books about middle-aged women going through a midlife crisis of sorts. And books that talk about books have to be treated delicately. So I started this one a little leery, but it quickly grew on me. The plot twist is sweet if a little predictable, but I enjoyed getting to know the women featured and the discussion on the books they chose. Definitely a consideration for book clubs.
3.5 stars
It was a bit of a slow start for me. But around page 100 it provided a twist I had to see out.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the book discussions, the flawed characters and the ending. After reading a bunch of disappointing books lately, this was just what I needed.
Yes, the story had a predictable ending but I liked this book. I liked the tie in with the book discussion group and the list of books that matter. The author apparently asked for feedback and her website lists the books that matter.
