4.5 stars!

It missed the certain magic that Vicious had but Vengeful was a welcome installment to this series. I loved seeing this world expanded even more and having a newer cast of EOs.

the way the narrative focus shifts between different story arcs and timelines really did not work for me and made the story feel fragmented—for the first 3/4 or so you just lose track of main characters for a hundred pages at a time until they all come together at the end. and i think bc of this there’s a lot of character/relationship development that gets lost (i.e. sydney and june, june’s backstory and her list of names, why jonathan stays with marcella, what marcella is actually like…doing…in the mob). i liked sydney’s journey of exploring her powers

and ultimately deciding not to bring serena back

The time hopping gets a bit confusing, and the addition of the news characters are great but make the narrative quite splintered. And there wasn’t as much of momentum in the story (you don’t find out what the climax is until quite late) compared to the first book. And yet this one was a way more engaging read. I was really liking the new characters, how they brought in the old ones, and the powers.

They almost say the title, but they do say vicious so maybe the next book will have vengeful.
