“[Marino] is like the harsh lighting in dressing rooms. I was relatively comfortable with myself until I saw my reflection in him.”
Terrible family, terrible professional life, terrible serial killer -- just all around blah, even for wanting your brain to be quiet for a moment. Plus, I might be jaded, but a lot of the legal bits written for shock and outrage () come off as like, okay, when you're done being outraged, you may want to get yourself a good lawyer.
I think I'm done with this series.
ETA: And I am livid about Mr. Peanut.
Spoiler
Oh! That nice woman who befriended Scarpetta is now prosecuting her! Oh! Her oldest friend is being subpoenaed! Oh! She thought she could trust the governor! (mini-spoiler: never trust the governor)I think I'm done with this series.

Scarpetta is great. Makes me want to go back and read the books I missed in the series.

Another great Scarpetta novel that sees Kay facing mortal danger and making some life-changing decisions. Hoping we’re going to see more of Jaime too, and that Marino will continue to feature in future novels - he’s way too big a character to leave behind. Given how connections have been revealed in this story, I think that’s a safe bet.
This book was interesting but there wasn't enough casework for my liking. There was a continuation of the 'let's judge everyone' theme I've been noticing in the last few books in this series. Also Kay is kind of a horrible friend and very judgemental, so that wasn't super.
After a couple attempts at reading the book, not by fault of the book at all mind you, I finally was able to complete this. (It's definitely a challenge reading with a one year old in the house.)
To be quite honest, this has been my least favorite book so far. Cornwell has done a tremendous job developing the character of Kay Scarpetta into a very strong personality that it was strange for me to see Scarpetta as a 'weak' character. Though it makes sense, to have a character be realistic, he or she must have weaknesses or flaws.
Like her other books in the series, The Last Precinct has many twists and turns that kept me wondering and reading.
I look forward to reading the next in the series.

I found this one to be written a wee bit different but maybe it was because it solely focused on dr Scarpetta instead of her cases for this book! Hopefully we get back into more juicy cases as we continue the series
Probably my least favourite of hers. It took me a while to finish it but still excited to keep reading.
Goodness me, but Kay goes through the ringer in this one! I knew I didn't like Jay!
