DID NOT FINISH: 0%

Couldn't even finish the first chapter.  Thought maybe it was the narration, downloaded he kindle boom and finished the first chapter and stopped there.

I read this on a trip this past summer and it was my first true introduction to reading C.S. Lewis. As a Jew I didn't quite know what to expect going in, but I was blown away. While both Christianity and Judaism share the belief of heaven and hell, it's certainly not as widely talked about within Judaism as it is in Christianity. Lewis' ideas really grab you and make you think and The Screwtape Letters definitely isn't light reading. I read it all at once due to the size, but others have suggested taking a step back from reading this all once due its themes.

This won't be my last time reading C.S. Lewis. His way of writing is brilliant and everyone has something to learn from him whether you are a Christian or not.

The Screwtape Letters- 5⭐️- I don’t think I can articulate just how important this book is to read for Christians who find themselves sinking their identity into the modern world. C.S. Lewis absolutely nails how devious the devil is and how he uses us against each other. How our value in ourselves and in the world is taking us farther away from God. How keeping us divided in all things is keeping us in sin. Screwtape reinforces to his nephew to keep people thinking Christianity is for the “weak and the uneducated” and how only those who are worldly and of higher intelligence can see how religion is useless. This book is told by the POV of demons so if you are a Christian and finding you are agreeing with Screwtape GO PICK UP YOUR BIBLE!!!

This is SO clever! At times I think I felt a bit lost, either in the writing style or just the era written, and so I I couldn’t give a 5 star but it was very close! Such a clever and interesting piece on temptation and the workings of the devil.
