I love C.S. Lewis. I read this about a decade ago and wanted to revisit it. Genius and insightful. Here are a few things that stuck out to me during this reading:
"You must bring him to a condition in which he can practice self-examination for an hour without discovering any of those facts about himself which are perfectly clear to anyone who has ever lived in the same house with him or worked in the same office."
"Do what you will, there is going to be some benevolence, as well as some malice, in your patient's soul. The great thing is to direct the malice to his immediate neighbors whom he meets every day and to thrust his benevolence out to the remote circumference, to people he does not know. The malice thus becomes wholly real and the benevolence largely imaginary."
"Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring, but still intending, to do our Enemy's will, looks round upon a universe from which every trace of Him seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been forsaken, and still obeys."

C.S. Lewis explores the spiritual war that is going on for our souls in this book. From the perspective of a demon, it is interesting to consider how demons are fighting for our souls and how much they are trying to win us over for the devil. It did take me a while to read - I had to reread each chapter twice to really understand what was being said. I finished the book intrigued about spiritual warfare and how it affects our daily lives. I recommend all Christians read this book for a deeper understanding of the work of demons in our lives and also how God fights for us (and, spoiler: WINS)!

Happy to say I understood the words better than the last time I read it (in maybe 7th grade?). An insightful, truth-filled read, ironically enough.
