This is a gimmicky sort of book, which I can only cap at 3-4 stars. This goes for all books of this nature.

From a collection of letters written by a devil to his nephew, we're thrust into temptations of sin and what it would take for a human to disavow God. The book scrapes against the teachings of Christianity from opposing views, which makes the book less of a story and more an examination of human dependence on religion. It makes you think.

This book did not give me the energy to engage in religious commentary, so I'll just keep this weak-sauce review short. You'll enjoy it if you want something quick. yet mindful.

This made me want to be a bit better. Some sexism but it was written a while ago so what can ya do.

So starts my biblical journey alongside C.S. Lewis. I really enjoyed this book. Read on the recommendation of Kyla Scanlon because she heaped so much praise on it in that Ezra Klein episode. The imagination that is required to create a work like this, so incredibly original. Really excited to read more of Lewis' Christian writing.

Unfortunate bit of info I read about this work. It was adapted into an audio play by Focus on the Family (anti-abortion/anti-LGBT rights/anti-everything org.) in 2009 and Screwtape was played by Andy Serkis :O protestant evangelicals X LOTR, way more likely than you'd think

I don't fully know how to rate this book... it feels like it should be on it's own scale separate from what I usually judge by. I also think I suffered from listening to the audio; I couldn't get the ideas as well as if I was reading them physically. I did find it fascinating, but again I was quite lost throughout the audio, so my 3.5 is not harsh it's just I couldn't appreciate it as well as I may have otherwise.

Also coming at this book as someone who is not a Christian and has never been is interesting as well.
