Best to say, first of all, that the StoryGraph review questions don't work particularly well for this book. There aren't 'characters' as such, this book is a series of letters from a demon to his nephew, outlining how he is to manage a mortal man's spiritual direction. Although we loosely follow the life of the mortal man, he remains abstract throughout the entirety of the book. There is no plot - it is more of a concept.
The best thing about this book is that it is really funny. Screwtape is witty, and acutely observant. The book is satirical, and CS Lewis has done satire justice here. I particularly enjoy the quips he makes towards Wormwood, and the occasional brief glimpses into the wider demon world.
The book is also good as a look at pop-theology. Screwtape comments on aspects of the human condition which persist even now, over 80 years post-publication. The theological principles are presented in this book in a very interesting, original way. The book is overtly and persistently Christian - there is not a word in the book which does not relate directly to the Christian worldview, so don't read this if you don't have an interest in Religion and theology.
I really enjoyed this book, but the language made it hard for me to understand. I think this is mostly because it was written 80 years ago, and I did find myself understanding more easily as I progressed through the book, so it is possible I would enjoy another CS Lewis more if I read it immediately following this one, but I did also find the syntax and phrasing odd; often I would be reading a sentence inside out to make sense of it.
I would say that this book is funny and insightful, and really useful for reading in short bursts (1-2 letters on a specific theme at a time), but it is not particularly readable as a single body, much less re-readable.

I didn't understand most of it. Looking to reread it when I'm older.

This was an interesting book for me. I really enjoyed how the story progressed somehow solely through one perspective. I looked forward to the first line in every of Screwtape's letters to Wormwood. I was hoping for a final letter from Wormwood at the end but we didn't get one. But what an ending that was! Absolutely left me scrambling.
With this piece, I mainly enjoyed the fictional aspect of the story. The religious commentary not so much. I think the main thing was that I found it all so terribly boring. There was nothing introspective about the ramblings of Screwtape. I was expecting interesting commentary about the condition of man and how hope and humanity is linked to spirituality. But it was more rudimentary, taken down to a very basic level: annoying mothers, lust for women, and male competition. Which now thinking about it, kinda makes sense coming from the devil himself - he does not see what the fuss is about when it comes to humans. But SURELY after all this time, he understands our inner workings a bit more than that.
I'll admit, I did not give this book the time of day that it probably needed. I listened to it via audiobook to and from work and at times found myself spaced out after a long day of work. More effort is needed from me before I make my opinion so concrete.
