screwtape letters is an excellent introduction to christian theology. the format of letters breaks it down and makes it easier to digest. i absolutely loved it and will be reading more of c.s. lewis's theology in the future
Well written by a sad, small minded blind follower. If there’s a hell, you’re surely burning in it C.S.
Pretty all right. I think you can poke a lot of holes in here, but one of the big ones is that, I think, the road the devil would travel to entice all us humans isn't through discomfort, but through pleasure and comfort.
I believe history has proven this correct, in terms of what allows great evil to thrive.
It's comfort.

Lewis explores the human psyche and how we get tempted into sin and complacency in a way that hits home so readily. It is challenging and informative and inspiring.
I enjoyed this book, but not in the way I enjoy most books. As Lewis noted, it's unpleasant to be completely in the perspective of Screwtape, and it could have been nice to get a second narrator. But in some ways, I think that's the point of the book. The reader is supposed to feel uncomfortable and recognize how unpleasant and disgusting the forces of evil are, and how good and loving God is in contrast.
Narrating the "patient's" journey through life and Christianity using letters is a unique literary device, and I think a major part of the success of this book. It's especially interesting to have the letters be responses to letters about the patient. Even with this third-hand connection, I still was rooting for the patient the whole time.

- The Screwtape Letters is a delicious satire on religion as the reader enjoys short, but concise correspondents between the devil and a tempter.
Lewis has created something that is sometimes funny, sometimes thought provoking and always entertaining. -
