The Screwtape Letters

C.S. Lewis

4.12 AVERAGE

dark funny informative reflective fast-paced

One of the best books I have ever read. I always knew Lewis to be an intelligent and innovative communicator of the gospel, but this really blew me away. I appreciated the science fiction/fantasy elements of this book that is infused with Christian teachings.

Shout out the very clever Kyla Scanlon from whom I first heard about this book!

Wowooowowowwo these letters were soooo interesting sooo much to reflect on!!???

Maybe the most eye opening book Lewis ever wrote. The thought provoking nature of this book makes it a must read for any Christian who wants to understand the schemes of the Enemy more. This book will change your life.

This is a favorite of one of my best friends, so I really wanted to like it, but boy did I have to force myself to finish it. The concept sounded so interesting, but the novelty of it wore off within the first 20 pages or so, and after that it was just reading Christian philosophy disguised as a "delightfully witty" narrative from an ill-wishing demon.

I feel like a lot of the "insights" were really just cliches and Lewis really did repeat himself quite a bit. It was very anticlimactic. I respect that this book is doing something relatively new, but it was dreadfully boring.

Incredible insight into the inner workings of the spiritual realm. A must-read for the Christian desiring to arm themselves against the workings of the adversary.
