This felt like the novelization of that Jason Stathom movie, Crank. It was well written, humorous , tons of action, and a decent story. If you want a fun, blockbuster action movie in book form, this will do the trick. It isn’t much more.
This was a fun book about an ex-mob hitman, now in WitSec and a Resident (not a resident) at a NYC hospital.
Listening to this audiobook last night I actually got light headed and almost puked because of the self inflicted wound the main character was describing. I have never had anything like that happen before! It was so insane! I guess because I was picturing seeing it so vividly it was just too much!
And what made it worse was, I had to stop listening but REALLY wanted to know what happened! I finished the last 8 minutes of the book this morning with no problems!
Beat the Reaper by Josh Bazell is intense, and might make you puke at the end but is really good!!! Felt like watching an action flick.

I wanted to really like this book but it was just okay. There were a few laugh out loud moments and it's definitely got some gruesome parts but overall I just couldn't get into it the story even though I liked the main character Peter. The author's wit and humor is great though so I will probably read more form this author.
This book is hilarious, but definitely skip the second one in this series.
Fun and interesting, with great detail about the medical profession, but a little overly graphic for me and the female characters are extremely shallow. Still, a quick and easy read.
I really, really enjoyed this book! I finished it in about 24 hours. The story was engaging and interesting. But, there are two things I didn't like...obviously not enough to NOT give it 4 stars.
1) I've never been a big fan of switching between current day and the past over and over again. It breaks me out of the little world that I've put myself in and makes the story go more in fits and starts than fluidly. Maybe that's just me.
2) It was a little more gruesome than it probably needed to be in places. But again, I'm sure that's just me.
Other than that, I absolutely loved the story and I loved the author's use of wit and humor. And basically...the main character, Peter Brown, is a badass! :o)
Looking forward to the next one in February!
