I enjoyed it more than the last book in the series but still wasn't a huge fan. I think this series wasn't really for me and I can't quite put my finger on why, just that something that seemed so up my alley just didn't click with me. I do plan on reading the sequel series, since I only read this one because I started FSiS without realizing it was a sequel series in the first place and had to backtrack to pick up missing context. I don't have any true gripes with this book, I just didn't really care.

Now for the last book, it had typical wrapping up the story energy. Lots of crazy twists, and held my interest well. I wasn't sure exactly how things would go down between characters until the end. Our young adult/teens are all learning things about themselves and trying not to be such terrible people. Honestly they could all use some good parents right about now.
Watch out for panic attacks about abuse (from an evil enchantress no less), and our two main couples taking things to the next level with some sexual content. Easily skipable if that's not your thing.

4.5 stars: made me wish Rhen and Harper were in book two!! I like grey and lia Mara but Rhen and Harper are my faves. I feel like the author went a touch too far with Rhen’s character in book 2, so it made it REALLY HARD to redeem
him, but in my opinion she did a good of a job as she could have!!
I’m most disappointed that the lia Mara/Harper friendship didn’t really happen. They like each other but aren’t pals which I WANTED

Do I wish A Curse so Dark and Lonely had been a standalone? Yes. Did this series go the way I thought it would? Absolutely not. But do I still love the way Brigid Kemmerer wrote it and will I preorder Tycho's story? 100%. Bring on more of this world!
I have to admit... I really enjoyed being back with Rhen and Harper for a part of the book. Their development, both of their personalities and of their relationship was the thing I enjoyed the most in this book. That didn't mean I didn't like the Grey/Lia Mara parts of the book. Grey's struggle with where his loyalties lie are great, and I loved how Lia Mara was trying to be the queen she wanted to be, depite with what was expected of her, with the legacy of her mother. The ending was really satisfying, and I am a little sad that the journey through Emberfall seems to be ending now.

A Brilliant Finish to the Cursebreakers series! I wanted to know what was going to happen next so badly that I flew through some pages and had to reread for clarity. I loved reading from each of the four main characters viewpoints. The plot twists and how the author brought the characters together were not what I expected, but the ending almost left me in tears. Ms. Kemmerer left some supporting characters stories incomplete enough that I hope she revisits this world to bring us more of their stories in the future.
