I am so incredible disappointed with this series and the most definitely the final installment. Everything that made the first book enchanting and had me devouring it in a matter of hours was deconstructed and all of our favorite characters unrecognizable. Rhen would have been better off a villain. Harper was a shell of the girl from the 1st book. Grey, my favorite of the three, was thrusted in onto a path that did not feel wanted, destined, or earned. Don't get me started on Lia Mara - no character development at all. I feel as this story could have benefited without her story arc.

It’s bittersweet to be done with these characters, but I also think a trilogy was the perfect length. Overall, I enjoyed how this story continued in the final book and how we adapted the POVs to gain the most from everyone involved.

It’s such a strange feeling never strongly shipping any of the couples discussed throughout the books. I had my own idea of what I would have wanted to see, but not enough for me to be upset with the book. I understand how things progressed as they did and why certain characters connected more than others (through friendship and romance).

There were a couple loose ends that I wish we had more time to resolve, but I am content with the ending and I see how things will continue on. I enjoyed this trilogy and the characters introduced along the way; I definitely recommend reading for a good time!

I went into this book with some reservations, having not been completely sold on the way the second book had set it up. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this one! It was definitely my favourite of the trilogy.
Spoiler Though the ending wasn't completely satisfying, one of them had to yield, and I think the way Kemmerer ended this world made so much sense to me.
.
I loved this novel, and I love the characters in it. I loved getting all four POVs in this book. It made me realize how much I had missed Harper and Rhen in book 2. I feel like all of their voices got so much stronger in this novel, and it definitely shaped how everything played out.

Overall, a definite 5-star read. I couldn't put it down! I'm sad it's over but what an amazing triology.

Harper and Wren deserve each other. They both suck!! Harper is such a hypocrite and gives white woman tears and expects the benefit of the doubt while always thinking she’s right. I’m happy Grey called her out. I don’t think I have to explain why Wren sucks. He’s Harper’s perfect counterpart. I really hope the series ends here because dear god, more is just sooooo unnecessary. This just feels drawn out and VERY clearly written by a white woman (if I’m wrong that’s awkward 🤷‍♀️). Love Grey and Lia Mara though!!!!!!!! Lia Mara’s sister is a whinny little brat though. Edit: just looked it up and there’s not another book. I’m happy cause I’m tired of Harper and Wren but the ending was SOOOOOO unsatisfactory. book is going down in rating cause of that

I wanted this one to be so much better than it was.
Just, ugh.
So.
Is everyone forgetting that Grey freaking let a man die in the second book so he wouldn't be caught? Like those soldiers were on Rhen's orders, but Rhen wanted the magesmith captured, not killed. And Grey....did nothing but protect himself. So....why is all of this hate levelled at Rhen when Grey did just as bad if not worse?
The middle was great - I'm glad we got to see Rhen and Harper's POV's again. I was happy to see some of the choices they were making - and I got through Grey and Lia Mara's POV's . There were some parts that I was just dying to get back to the book to finish reading it.
But there are just so many unanswered questions and things left - unsatisfactory.
What about Harper and Jake and Disi? How are they gonna navigate that?
Rhen's whole character is just kinda shattered and Grey doesn't seem like he's gonna be a good king, because, try as you might to set up Lia Mara as a good ruler, she really wasn't. Not from what I could see.
Clearly Rhen was set up to be a good ruler and Grey is just gonna be floundering.
Guys, this series started out so great but then it felt like the author fell in love with Grey and Lia Mora....and I wasn't about them. I don't think they were that compelling of characters and then they ruined the aspects of Rhen that I loved so much and basically undermined Harper entirely. Harper barely seems to have more than a supporting role in this book.
:/

I was pleasantly surprised with the conclusion of the series. I was still irritated that a lack of communication could result in so much conflict, but I felt that the story itself had improved.

A Vow So Bold and Deadly by Brigid Kemmerer
⭐️ Rating: 4/5
🔥 Spice: 1/5 – Minimal and implied when referenced.

Brigid Kemmerer brings the Cursebreaker series to a close with A Vow So Bold and Deadly, delivering an emotional but somewhat anticlimactic conclusion to the tensions between Emberfall and Syhl Shallow. While the story remains engaging, the final showdown didn’t quite deliver the high-stakes battle I was expecting.

With Emberfall divided, Grey has given Rhen 60 days before launching an attack—an ultimatum that seems strange given the stakes but makes sense on an emotional level given their newfound sibling bond. Meanwhile, Rhen spends much of this book trying to figure out how to defeat someone with magic, while Lia Mara struggles to rule Syhl Shallow and prove herself a capable queen. As tensions rise, an unexpected return from the past disrupts everything—Lilith, the sorceress who cursed Rhen in the first book, reemerges to manipulate him once more, shifting the final battle in an entirely different direction.

What I Loved:
- Character Development – Despite my disappointment in the final battle, I appreciated the emotional growth of the characters, especially Grey and Rhen learning to navigate their relationship as brothers.
- Happily Ever After – I was genuinely relieved that neither brother died, and all the major characters got a satisfying conclusion. Given how much I’ve grown attached to them, I’m glad the series ended on a positive note.
- Political Intrigue & Leadership Struggles – I liked seeing Lia Mara’s challenges as queen, proving that ruling is far more complicated than expected.

What Didn’t Work for Me:
- Anticlimactic Ending – The final showdown between Rhen and Grey, which had been building for so long, was essentially dismantled by Lilith’s reappearance. Instead of the emotional battle I was expecting, the story pivoted, making the resolution feel rushed and underwhelming.
- Pacing & Tension – With 60 days before an attack, there was a lot of waiting, planning, and internal conflict, which slowed down the momentum I had hoped for in a finale.

Final Thoughts: A Vow So Bold and Deadly provides a satisfying conclusion for fans invested in these characters, even if the final conflict felt a bit flat. While I would have loved a more intense climax, I still enjoyed the story and appreciated that it wrapped up on a hopeful note. It’s an enjoyable read, but nothing phenomenal.
