This was a good book. Each time I thought I knew what was happening it would prove me wrong.

2.5 stars.

Overall it was an entertaining book. I did not like any of the characters except maybe the dog?
It had too many twists, coincidences, and reveals that I was rolling my eyes by the 8th bombshell. This is my first Alice Feeney book, not a good first impression IMO. But if there’s a better one, maybe I’ll give it a try.

So many twists. One doesn't know the murderer until the very end.

I was nervous to read this book because of some of the trigger warnings but I am SO glad I did! 5 ⭐️ for me! One of the best thrillers I have read that literally kept me guessing until the very end. I loved all the dark and twisty turns and highly recommend for those thriller junkies out there!

I was sooooo into this until 60%. No one mentioned MASSIVE TWs of on-page child molestation, grooming, and sexual abuse. Took the rest of the book for me to be less mad. Then it had. LAME ending. Switch and bait. Dumb dumb.

I’m honestly flabbergasted but in the best way possible. I really thought I had it this time but Alice Feeney is brilliant as ever and shocked us with a surprise ending. What a story !

I really enjoyed this one! It kept me on the edge of my seat and had me scared for the main characters while still questioning everyone and everything. Twists and turns for sure!

Before I start off with the review proper let me just issue a warning; this book contains animal abuse and rape. I think I can say that without it being a spoiler but in any case I think it's important that people know that because not knowing can trigger some people.

I don't think I've ever read anything before by this writer but I have seen other books with comparisons to her on their covers. Usually the type of books that say, "has a twist you won't see coming." I guess I should have known I wouldn't really like the book because I usually do see it coming and then I'm annoyed with the book. This one I saw the twist coming but I think the majority of people probably wouldn't so I guess that's on me rather than the book.

I found the characters either flat or cartoonish in their evil and not really much in between. I didn't relate to any of them, the closest was the younger female detective, and I found some of the scenarios unlikely in the extreme.

It was readable, it was fairly mindless and I can see why people would like it but it wasn't for me.

Twisty, gruesome thriller. I thought I had it figured out several times and actually had the right person once then changed my mind. I was surprised by the ending. Love that it was all explained in the last chapter. I enjoyed this book. Easy to follow. Characters I felt bad for and others I loved to hate.
