I really liked A Christmas Carol. I've never read it before, only seen snippets of various versions of the movie. Based on that rudimentary knowledge, the book wasn't exactly what I was expecting. It was a more powerful story with vivid and slightly disturbing imagery. I could feel myself rooting for Scrooge to come to a realization that his treatment of his fellow men needed to drastically improve. Beautiful transformation.

The illustrations in this particular version are gorgeous.

The second story included, A Christmas Tree, I didn't care for. Too depressing.

A charming story I'd surprisingly never read before! Scrooge to me has always been the musical with Albert Finney (which is still the most faithful and fantastic adaptation I've ever seen). I obviously love Dickens, and this was a beautiful little tale of a man looking at the people around him with new eyes and making a great change. Loved it.

It remains unmatched as a festive read

Summary: A uplifting morality tale that brought a tear to my eye a couple of times and made me think about people.

Things I liked:

I think the thing I liked best was the device. The unravelling of a nasty old person into the events and experiences that ended up defining the person he was today. Combined with a glimpse of the future I think it was a great way to get any reader thinking about themselves and people that they knew in a new light.

The Cratchets, what a family they made me laugh, they made me cry. Little Tiny Tim is such a trooper.

Things I thougth could be improved: He seems to do a lot of exposition breaking the 'show don't tell principle' which actually drags me out of the story. I think I would have prefered to discover the characters organically, but with such a short book that might have been difficult.

Highlight:
Spoiler It's got to be scrooge on Christmas morning. It gave me tingles all over when he went around being a nice guy all of a sudden
