Really fun read, loved a lot of the ideas here. I just felt like it could have used an extra 100 or so pages to flesh the character relationships out a bit more. But I enjoyed it as a fun historical fiction. I'd love to read another historical re-telling from Safi. The way she writes historical figures is so fascinating and makes me want to do more research on them.

"In the stories of the days of old, there was once not a king, but a thief."

The Remix classics series proves yet again how good it is. Beautifull reimagining of the Robin Hood story with just enough historical accounts woven in

I’ll do anything for a retelling. They are my kryptonite. This was excellent.

This is fun! A Robin Hood retelling set in twelfth-century Palestine and the surrounding areas (Jerusalem and Jaffa are the most developed settings) with Muslim MCs and a diverse cast of supporting characters. Fun hijinks and considerate, ethical depiction of history behind it. Pretty fast-paced and action-packed, sapphic romance on the sidelines, good narration in the audiobook. This is the first of the "remixed" series and I'm intrigued for sure. I love this reclaiming and re-imagining of dusty old stories, breathing new life and representation into them.
