I honestly don't know how to rate this book because, while I didn't really like it and thought the writing was a bit atrocious, I can see it's not entirely the book's fault.
It simply wasn't the book for me.
For one, I didn't expect it to be so dialogue-focused and I felt like it lacked
The story itself is actually interesting and there are moments that made me think we might have been going somewhere. Also, the book is short enough that you don't have to skim pages to reach the end, but at the same time, the execution is poorly defined and too rushed in certain passages.
Again, not really my cup of tea despite belonging to a genre I deeply appreciate.
Two stars are more than enough, for me.

A quick and captivating psychological thriller. Similar in feel to The Patient, but better written and with a more cogent plot. I devoured this in one two-hour sitting! I almost wish it had been longer; I would have loved more of a slow burn upfront. Still, a page turner. I’ll never say no to a thriller set in a psychologist’s office! Many thanks to the author for providing me with a signed finished copy.

I have always found psychology very interesting and the authors expertise shines through in this novel. The psychologist takes on a new troubled patient and the Dr. can’t turn away from the challenge of helping the new patient. As things evolve more secrets are found. This book focuses on ethical and legal issues that I am sure psychologists deal with a lot. I found this book easy to read and I enjoyed how the story unfolded.

Disclaimer- I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Dr. Alicia Reese allows the reader to sit in on her sessions with a patient, Lucas Ferro. Usually what happens between a therapist and her patient are kept confidential. But it seems as if she wants us to know what is going on so that we may make our own conclusions about Mr. Ferro. And we get her impression and interpretation to help us.

I enjoyed how the author set up her “chapters” or should I say sessions. But besides the sessions, we get a peek into her life once she meets her latest client. If you like a book where you can immerse yourself into what is going on than you might enjoy this book. I’m a reader that’s all about the romance but every once in a while I like to stretch my comfort zone. And boy am I glad I did.

It’s hard to believe that I almost didn’t read this book. When the request to review came into my inbox I almost hit the delete button. But once I read the blurb I decided to take a chance. Once I got the book, the physical copy, I read the back of the book and read the little blurb next to the author’s picture. Found it interesting that she had something to do with one of my favorite franchises. I could see this book being a part of the series.

Would I read this book again? Yes I would. One thing I might do differently now that I’ve read it once is wait for the month of June and start again. Then instead of reading chapter after chapter, I will follow the dates that coincide with the sessions. I might have to write myself a note because once I read the first session I will automatically want to continue instead of waiting for the next session date. But then I realized that there will come a time where a stretch of time will pass until I can read again and that’s when I decide this might be a bad idea. Especially when I get to the ending that feels like this story isn’t over yet.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

This book was awesome.

There was a lot of character building, and I kept wondering when something was going to happen and then it did, and it rekindled the story for me.

At the very beginning of this book, there were a few "jump scares" that alluded to things that were going to happen in the future. A few of them I was able to guess, but MANY of them were surprises.

There is a twist that drew out the ending and made me think something would happen, but it didn't. I had to reread the end a few times to see if I lost something, but it seems like it was a cliffhanger. It would have been awesome if there was more of an ending.

Guess I'll just have to get the follow up when it's released.

If you're looking for a fast-paced psychological thriller, this might be the book for you. Told from the perspective of a psychologist, this story highlights her work with a patient who is a confessed (only to her) murderer. Because of confidentiality rules, she cannot report what she has been told and works with him to overcome the grief and trauma from this event. I really loved the characters, the setting, and the plot of this one and thought I would for sure be giving this title five-stars. However, the ending really ruined this story for me. I can't say much without giving away any spoilers, but it was just so unrealistic and did not fit the writing style of the rest of the book.

The Ninth Session is a pretty interesting psychological thriller that will keep readers on their toes.

The story is written in "sessions" as the main character, Dr. Alicia Reese, takes on a new patient and starts to uncover his secrets and earn his trust. After each session, Dr. Reese details her thoughts about her new patient and how she plans to proceed. There are also chapters that detail her life outside of work, including visiting her deaf sister, interacting with her neighbors and their foster children, and remembering her husband who passed away.

As the title suggests, everything comes to a head in the ninth session, and boy, oh boy, it's a doozy. I won't spoil anything about what happens, but it definitely is intense.

There are quite a few twists within the pages of The Ninth Session, and that one close to the end...

I can honestly say that even though this book seems like a straightforward sort of thriller, it goes in a direction I wasn't quite expecting, and that's what made it enjoyable and exciting. I found myself second-guessing things as I read on, and then I started second-guessing my second-guesses.

It's an entertaining read, to be sure, so if you're a fan of suspense novels and/or psychological thrillers, you'll want to give The Ninth Session a whirl.

4.5 stars!

I really enjoyed this psychological thriller. Psychologist Alicia Reese has agreed to work with a client with a troubling past. Lucas Ferro has tried therapy before for his anxiety/panic attacks but with little to no success. What Alicia uncovers during her therapy sessions with Luke, as well as what happens outside of her office, makes for a great read.

I found the clinical aspect of the story very fascinating and while some of the story was unsurprising there were more than one “I didn’t see that coming!” moment. The aspects of the story that dealt with Coda (Children of Deaf Adults) culture was also very interesting, and I learned a lot. Most importantly, I really liked Alicia as a character. If you are into suspense/thrillers and want to experience something different, I highly recommend this one.
