It is very rarely that I like the movie version of a character better than the literary one. In the movie I found Becky to be somewhat endearing. Yes, she makes some stellar financial mistakes, but appears to eventually learn from them. In the book, I found Becky to be whiny and stupid; I felt absolutely no sympathy for her. Suze, far from being a friend, is nothing but an enabler (although Kinsella does explain why she might not get the concept of budgeting). The relationship between her and Luke, doesn't ring true at all.

I have enjoyed some of Kinsella's stand-alone novels, but was disappointed by this one.

F-U-N !!! :D
Doesnt have a big message, its kind of superficial, predictable, etc etc but it was very nice to read.

I'm a bit biased as the movie based on this book has been a comfort film for me since I was 12, so I had a lot of fun reading it, even if the movie barely follows the plot of the book. Rebecca Bloomwood, although she is totally an idiot, is a very loveable idiot. What I enjoyed most about this book was how consistent of a character Becky is. She jumps to conclusions and daydreams about a future life based on one piece of clothing or decision. She is constantly justifying silly purchases as a little treat to cheer herself up, which if that's not relatable I don't know what is. I, too, indulge in a silly little overpriced drink every once in a while.
However, this book is incredibly white and makes no effort not to be, which keeps me from giving it a higher rating.
All in all, it's an incredibly easy and quick read and is good if you just need something a bit silly to pass the time with.

just as breezy and funny as i remembered. the movie did a serious disservice to this series

I loved that the book was easy to read and I really wanted to follow Rebecca's story to see what kind of scheme she would cook up next to get herself out of trouble.

However I wasn't a big fan of the content of the novel and Rebecca's personality at all. As a very frugal person, I'm astounded by how she can just spend so much money and barely blink. At some points it got difficult for me to read the novel, I felt like just yelling at her to tell the truth or to not hide the zebra print pants from the customer!

While I enjoyed the storyline (it's cute and happy-go-lucky, a true beach read), the character infuriated me! The author intends the main character to be "real," and so she has many intended-to-be-lovable character flaws and she entangles herself in a series of mishaps that are supposed to be comical. However, they (and she) ended up turning me off. I was frustrated by how stupid she seemed, and how she brought her problems upon herself. I kept wanting to reach in the pages and slap her! Only read this book if you enjoy a fun, mindless plot and don't mind characters who are beyond saving themselves.
