I think Mary Balogh is a superb writer, but unfortunately this romance didn’t work for me.
My main issue is that there wasn’t a lot of development of the romance between Aiden and Eve.
It seems like they go from apathy to Love really quickly and just unfortunately wasn’t believable.
I’m excited to keep reading this series, and I think it’s really difficult for the first book in a series with all the work of both setting up the world and also the romance.
I did really appreciate the discussion of war in this book. Aiden is a soldier returning from the napoleonic wars and is frustrated with the romanticizing of war that takes place when he returns to England.
