'3,5' Funny and light, but I find myself having issues with it. Despite dealing with such a sensitive issue as immigration,it manages to bring out a sense of optimism. However,it lays out only the basics and approaches the matter on the surface, while focusing to make a joke out of nothing (and not always being successful).

As fun and exciting as the book looks when you first pick it up, as flat and non-existent is it's storyline. Filled with anything but logic and tons of racist stereotypes, this book fell flat. Took me ages to finish as I mainly used it to "fill gaps in between reading other books". And well, once you start reading it you kind of want to know if there is an actual story. Spoiler alert: there isn't. Felt like a draft by a first time novelist. Will be reading Puértolas' other book though, since I want to find out if he evolved as a writer.

I get that a lot of people who are not in the POC community see this book as racist, but as a member of the Indian and POC culture, this book is a juicy satire and shows the people who seem to dance around understanding what racism is, where they lack so heavily. This was a funny and beautiful read, no wonder it's such a best-seller.
