The political commentary in this book is one of the best in Star Wars. Extremely lovable character. And has some of my favorite examples of idealism v. realism. Also wonderful and realistic grief from characters! Takes what could have been a simple YA romance and turned it into this anti-fascism beauty. My favorite Star Wars book and one of my favorite books period. Great for any starter-Star Wars fans.
Moderate: Grief, War
Minor: Suicidal thoughts
So this is not a book I would generally find myself reading as A) it falls under YA, and B) it's a book based on a movie series. I used to read STAR TREK books when I was a teen. Liked them then, but let's face it, they are really for fans only. Same with STAR WARS books. This one is a little different though.
So this came highly recommended to me from people who I know have good taste in books. It only gets 3 stars because it is a simple read, but overall it's a good one.
The story revolves around a pair of children, from different social circles on a remote planet in the outer rim. They both harbor strong feelings for each other, and both want desperately to join the Empire. They do...however, after the destruction of Alderaan and the battle at Yavin that results in the destruction of the Death Star, their paths alter as one becomes more loyal to the Empire, and the other ends up deserting and joining the rebellion.
Set against the events of the original trilogy, this is a personal story that sees only the heroes from the movies appear in small cameos. This would fall under the new line of "Star Wars Story" movies rather than the trilogies.
Overall a decent read.
