Quick read once I finally actually picked up the book. Less than a day. A nice, brief visit with Eve Dallas and her entertaining crew (minus her bestie and her bestie's beau). Formulaic in a comforting way. :)
3 1/2
So a Eve and Roake novella set around between Christmas and New Years. Nice to get a reminder of the dynamics before getting back to reading this series. A little too short to be great.

"You leave here every day to do a job that puts you in constant physical jeopardy. I don't ask you to change that. It's one of the reasons I fell in love with you. Who you are, what you do, why you do it. I don't ask you to change. Don't you ask me."
Instead of embracing the short story as an opportunity for character development or interesting side story, this novella is just a rushed form of the normal length novels. To save space, this one is a reprise of an earlier serial killer (now escaped from prison), so the reader is presumed to remember him generally from the earlier story.
Enjoyable enough as a follow up to the previous book (that ends right where this short story begins), but not what I was hoping for from an in-between story. Probably that's on me and not J.D. Robb's fault, but there you have it.
No reason to read this unless you're reading the whole series, in which case, you should read this right after reading book 7.

Pretty good. Would've given 3 1/2 stars

This was a short little holiday novella that deals with a serial killer case from 3 years prior. I would have loved to see that original case, then had this follow up! As it was, this was fast paced and kinda interesting! We do get a small bit of follow up to events of the previous book, but nothing major. All in all, a good way to keep the Holiday suspense going!
Eve Dallas gets a holiday gift she never wanted when a man put away three years ago escapes prison and comes after her. As usual, she kicks ass with Roarke by her side, the perfect team.
Honestly I think they should just form a private investigators company and put away all the criminals. While having a lot of sex.

Nice short story. Didn't enjoy it as much as Interlude in Death or as my most recent reads in the series, but it was still fun to read.
