Midnight in Death

This was pretty exciting and I liked that it picked right up from the last book.
mysterious tense fast-paced

Another winner - lots of tension and suspense!

I feel like this story was a missed opportunity...a comeback escaped killer...could've been so much better...

Another case solved by the feisty detective and her team.

This time the identity of the killer is known, since he is someone Eve helped put behind bars who managed to escape and now has a grudge against her. It took her a long time to follow the thread that ultimately lead to him and I felt a bit impatient with her since it's one of the first things I thought of, but she did a great job as usual.

I still love Roarke in all his unrealistic glory, as well as Peabody and her sly humor.

Looking forward to listening to the next book in the series, [b:Conspiracy in Death|172691|Conspiracy in Death (In Death, #8)|J.D. Robb|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1305124508l/172691._SY75_.jpg|3093655].

One of the few novellas I like to reread. Three serial killers in a row but this book is different than the others. Eve knows how Daved Palmer operates so she goes into this murder(s) better prepared. I kind of like Palmer for his evil creative mind. What is really impressive is how much crime solving and action occurs in only 10 chapters. Above all, we see the mother/daughter relationship developing between Eve and Dr. Mira. Good stuff!

It would have been nice to have the bad guy who reappeared be someone we had met before, but, oh, wait, it has been less than a year since we met the characters even though this is book 7.5. While I do like this series I really find it hard to believe that in less than a year a detective has caught so man REALLY significant cases. Still a fun little read and nice to see that our heroes aren't super human and take time to recover.

I wasn't going to read these novellas in my challenge because I typically don't enjoy novellas but I'm glad I read this one. In the book, we deal with an old case of Eve's before the start of the series. A person Eve put away broke out of jail and is after the people involved in his case three years ago. Giving the other people a protective detail, Eve hopes that will force the murderer to come after her, effectively using herself as bait. Roarke is not too happy about that so he puts himself to use as her protective detail and her aid while Peabody recovers from the happenings of the last book. Unfortunately, her plan doesn't work and Mira is taken. I like this book because it forces Eve to realize that the relationship she has with Mira isn't just work related nor medical between a therapist and patient. They care for each other and Eve's world of people she loves, and who she deems as weaknesses, is widening. But as Mira told her in the last book, Eve deserves a normal, safe, and happy life full of people she loves and she shouldn't let her job and murderers and the traumas of her past get in the way of her happiness and future.

I WANTED MORE. The only reason this is rated as low as it is is because I wanted more in the story. I love the background of each case and I love the combativeness that Eve and Roarke have throughout the regular sized novels. Why did this have to be so short?!?!?!
